A little while ago, for the second time this weekend, I finished a cigar I'd gotten from CigarBid, just on a whim without knowing or hearing anything about it. And for the second time this weekend, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Which made me wonder, what smokes have you guys tried on a lark, just as experiments - not necessarily just from CB - that impressed you and unexpectedly ended up on your short list of favorites?
In my case (still a newbie, remember), I've found these that I like a lot:
Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Robusto Indian Tabac Tomahawk Maduro La Flor Dominicana Ligero L400 La Vieja Habana Leather Patch Belicoso No. 6 Felipe Gregorio Robusto Hoya de Monterrey SDA Musico

Good question.. I have been smoking cigars for about ten years. Mainly Fuente. With the occasional cuban thrown in. Seemed like a costly way to experiment with diffrent brands, without knowing anything, until I started posting here. Now my list of cigars has grown...some of my new favorites are..
El Rey del Mundo robusto larga (NC) Padron (as of most recent and still waiting to go deeper with these...incredible smokes) Torano exodus 1959 silver edition churchills..... and I'm still learning ...
I bought a Chateau Fuente Sungrown last night at a new cigar merchant I found, it was on the way home from a bbq restaurant we had just ate at. I smoked it along with a Guinness Stout. It was a very pleasant smoke. I liked it so much I went back and bought 5 more. Thanks to all on this board who recommended it.
Chateau Fuentes are amazing smokes. I really love those.
One I tried on a whim was a Fuente Sel D'Oro. It's their normal Fuente line but with a CT shade wrapper. I loved it. Granted, it's not much of a risk trying a new cigar when a cigar is made by the Fuentes!
Another one I tried off of Cbid was an Estevan Cruz Maduro. It was a very nice surprise. It had that deep maduro earthy flavor with coffee notes that I love in maduros like the Oliva Grand Maduro

For those who like the chateau fuente, try the sungrown cuban belicoso. It is a fantastic cigar and worth the price despite having the name fuente on the label.
SHF, I think I reviewed an estevan cruz maduro a while back. Not a bad little smoke from what I remember.

I honestly usually read up on cigars before I purchase one, but my first CAO Brazilia was on a whim. It was delicious.

People aren't smoking cigars to be trendy, cool or stylish. They're smoking cigars because they like them. Because they enjoy the experience. Because for about $5 they can spend an hour sampling one of life's greatest luxuries. -David Savona

As a Montecristo smoker I always wanted to try one of their White Label lines, but found they were a little out of my price range.
When I saw the Robusto Special they're running over at JR I jumped all over the 8 pack combo of MC White Label Rothchildes paired with Belinda Epicures.
I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed the Belindas. For a Cigar that has a msrp of $2.50 it provided a lot of mild tasty smoke!
