Im looking at purchasing a traveling humidor and I have a quick question. The one im looking at is a 18 count cigar humidor with 3 layers of foam padding and a purge valve. My question is because the humidor is air-tight do i need to open the purge valve once a day or atleast open the humidor once a day to let the humidity out. Someone at my local Cigar store told me that If you keep the cigars in the air-tight humidor and dont open it up that the cigars will take on too much humidity. Is this true??? If someone with a air-tight travel humidor could tell me what they do from experience ide greatly appreciate it!
does leaving the purge valve open all the time let too much humidity out? Also whe you check the humidity level do you do it with an instrument or just be feel and sight?
It depends how wet your stix are. If you're dryboxing your travel humi (highly reccomended) you should have nothing to worry about excessive RH. Besides, it's a travel humi, not a desktop you'll be permanently storing smokes in. When I travel with either my 5 or 15 count I add NO moisture whatsoever (no foam, no strips) and leave'em in the box until I'm ready for them. I'm the boss
Who's got 2 thumbs and loves cigars? This guy.

I've got the Armored Humidor 18 cigar model and have taken it all over. I have used those little Humidipaks and they seem to work well. I checked the little buggers with a hygrometer and found they kept about 65-68% humidity.
I only opened the humidor to get a smoke. Even after taking it on airplanes and such it worked just fine.
