The humidity level in my humidor has been too high lately, probably due to the hot and humid weather we have been experiencing lately. Last week I caught the hygrometer reading in the 70-74% range. I tried smoking one last night and it didn't draw very well, so I tried another and had the same experience.
Are they all ruined? Or can I revive them by dropping the humidor level to the mid sixties for awhile in an effort to dry them out a bit. I have a prized assortment of around 50 good cigars and would hate to lose them.
Please advise. Thanks.

Drop the humidity to 63-67% levels and wait a month. Your smokes will do fine.

Keep them in A.C. if possable,Prop the lid open and buy a digital hygrometer if you don't have one.I try to keep my humis at around 65%.Let them stabilize for awhile and they should be OK.Dave

agreed with the above. you may also want to try using climax beads as a humidification source.
I dont think they're ruined yet, but you may want to remedy this soon. if you're looking to smoke one soon, put it in a dry box for a while before lighting

You should be fine. Many folks (yours included) keep their humis at 72, so 74 isn't that much of a stretch. The real danger in high humidity is potential problems with mold. But lowering the humidity will eventually bring them down, and any of the above suggestions will work fine too (probably quicker, if you need that).

Thanks for the replies.I do have a digital hygrometer and I will try to lower the humidity levels. Do most people keep their levels 65-67%?
And what are climax beads?

Although I agree with the obove opinions, I feel that yours may be ruined. As a favor to you, if you send 20-30 of them to me I will smoke them and be able to give a more accurate opinion. Big Grin

I think you should toss the whole lot of them, or even better, send them to me and I will see they get a proper cremat... er burial.

obviosly the key to aging your cigars is consistant temp and humidity. A few spikes here and there isnt going to kill your gars. Just make sure it doesnt happen all the time. Keep em in your basement
