I have had a flavor in my mind for nearly 10 years... And recently it has been reawakened... Help!!!

On a trip to Chicago ten years ago I stopped in a tobacconist and jokingly asked for a Cuban cigar (while never expecting to get one)... Well the joke was on me, because for the last 10 years it's been the biggest mistake I've made... "He sold me one"... and "I've never been able to stop thinking about the flavor"...

Understand that I'm not a cigar smoker "at least I wasn't". But on that day I smoked the whole cigar. And every effort to duplicate that flavor since then, has been serious waste of money for me. To be honest I finally (about 4 years ago) gave up...

Well recently I told a friend of mine (living in Canada) my tale of woe, and she decided to satisfy my longing... Ummmm, thank you "Department of Homeland Security" I have now been protected from long distance "Cigarette Loads"... Errrrrr...

Please can anyone help me figure out a way to satisfy this terrible longing? Another 10 years is going to be a terrible thing to face... Oh Lordee please help me...

Believe me, I realize the pitfalls (I've experienced them all)... But I have no where else to turn...

If anyone with a kind heart could please post a way for me to get in touch with them, be assured you will make this old heart sing...

Asking for a source for cuban cigars is a touchy subject. Get to know some guys on the CC board first and I'm sure you will get your source eventually. Probably sooner than 10 years.

Hard work may pay off eventually but laziness always pays off now.

It's ok guys,

Newb community punchng bag... I accept my postition. Took me 43 years to figure it out, and 10 years longer to receive my first long distance cigareeet load (courtesy of my taxes)"The rights of passage have begun"... "I hope"...

I've checked out the other forums, doing my best, and the taste is still there... Sorry for the miss-steps.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd love to know which store in Chicago sold you a "Cuban" without knowing you. We all know the fabulous rumors about stores that keep the "good stuff" in the back (hey, this is Chicago) but without knowing you?

Just curious.

I'll give you my best 10 year old information... Face Marshall Fields turn to your right and start walking (it wasn't more than 5 blocks)...

When you come to the first "Tobbaconist" (I pray they are still there, because I will return) act like a complete newb...

I was such a dummy, that I didn't even pay attention to what I was somking, when I lit it up.

When I went inside, all I said "I'm hoping to try the best you have... I've always hoped that someday I could try a Cuban benchmark". Well he smiled and handed me, two cigars (one was not good) killed me price wise (i'm thinking about $150, 10 years ago, for 2 cigars)...

I wish I had more for you... At the time I had an ex-girlfriend with me and she wasn't too happy with my new found pleasure...

All I know now is there can be no mistaking what I smoked to a leaf.

The trip itself was a bust though(we ended up getting our car broken into and everything stolen when we left)...

Oh well, there's my sad tale of woe..

No absolutley not, I don't know the guys name, or whether the shop even exists anymore...

Also whether or not others would have the same experience I did, is not something I have any idea about... My bet is, it rarely happens.

He is posting the location of a shop that sold him Cuban's in the US?

I think he should try a Black Iguana. Serves him right.

Didn't Thompsons first start in Chicago about 10 years ago under the "SheCago cigars?" I think they were driven out of there when the filler materials in their cigars became suspect. Big Grin
