whats the easiest way to cut the cigar with a cutter? I seem to be taking to much off mine and it unravels a little, not bad though.

Didnt i read somewhere where you can put your cutter on a surface and stick the end in, and that will cut it off at the right height?

I know that the Xikar cutters can be set on the table and cut the right amount, not sure what other cutters can also make that claim though.

Check the videos tab on the left, there's a couple on cutters and cutting that I found pretty helpful.

I hold the cigar with my thumb and forefinger about where I want to cut. When I cut, I rest my thumb and forefinger on the edge of the hole in the cutter to ensure I hold it straight and don't cut too far.

Go to the home page and watch the cigar video. They will show you how to cut a cigar.

I usually use my Xikar and clip just at the heel of the cap

I've got a Palio that works great. I don't take too much off a cigar.

I am a Palio convert. The Xikar is a good cutter, but the Palio is better.

scissors are by far the most precise tool to use.. they take some getting used to, but once you have the hang of it, nothing cuts as good as a pair of well sharpened scissors.. I use the xikar scissors, and love them...

Hi all, there are pros and cons to all means of opening the "head of your cigar some old timers pinch a bit of the cap off and never would even think of using a cutting tool. I like my Zino doubled blade cutter i have had it for many years and it never pinckes the cigar (I get clean cuts) also a good punch is a valuable tool and allows most of the cap to stay intact so It wont unravel.the cigar sissors can be alright but not my favorite because if not sharp or if the tolerances are not exact they tend to rip the wrapper. Get yourself a Zino double bladed cutter and maybe a good punch and that will solve all of your cutting needs.Dont buy junk as you will be sure to waste your money. Great smoking tools only enhance the pure enjoyment of cigar smoking

I have only seen the scissor cutting ritual once but was so impressed that I put it on my Christmas wish list.

I got a palio, from reading the past posts it seemed like a fan favorite, my uncle got me some scissors, and I had a punch cutter. But I still find my self using a razor blade when Im at home. Using a razor blade was the first way I cut a cigar when I didnt have any cutter. I slowly and carfuly cut the cap right to the edge, so I get the most surface area of the cap off without it unwraveling. Any one else ever tried this?

Ive only been smoking for 2 months and already built 3 humidors
