He deserves this BIGtime. He was one of those QBs that brought everyone on the team up a couple of levels. Did it for years for the Broncos. Would of loved to have seen him with someone other than Reeves calling the plays when he was young.

Jerry, jealousy is an ugly thing. I can't stand people like that. First you complain he can't do it, then he goes back to back superbowls and you have to find something new. It took long enough, lol. He got in the hall of fame the first time it was available to him. What's gonna be the new complaint about him?

It's not being a crybaby, it's called being smart! He had the leverage and he used it like MANY professional athletes. And as many of us know, it takes more than a great quarterback to win the superbowl. That in no way diminishes his accomplishments as a quarterback. I'm not a Bronco fan, I'm a Steelers fan, I just recognize greatness.

I'll second (or is it third or fouth) that statement. As a long time Broncos fan, I remember calling my dad after they won their first Super Bowl, and we both just sat there and bawled, we were so happy that John E. had finally won one.

You can't deny the fact that the players of today have 2 much power.
Dont get me wrong he deserves the Hall but the idea that jerry pointed out just shows that if players dont like what they have offered they cry untill they get there way. They play for money not for the love.

Yes players are bigger and faster now, but go back to the day of leather helmet and just padded cloth soulderpads. When they played on offense and defensive and made less that most people did in a year. That was the day of the tough football players.
To me it makes me ill that any professional athlete cries to make 5 million more dollars a year. I mean come on. The really sad thing that statiscally most of teh players salaries make up less that 35% of thei income as the indorsements and other incentives make up the remainder.
What people dont seem to understand that if they make that much, the public foots the bill again in tickets to the game, merchandise, and other ways. Everything trickles back to the consumer.
Elway was a great one...but it's hard to say if any NFL quarterback can be clearly labelled as the best of all time. Certainly he had a good combination of strength and the accuracy. He's not the best in every category though.
Just because they played with crude equipment does not make them tougher. You can find guys from any era who played entire games with cracked ribs and fractured bones.
But I'll tell you one thing...no single man in the leather helmet days has ever been hit as hard as the players today get hit by players like Ray Lewis. I played some ball in college, and I ran into some guys that were so strong and hit so hard that you would swear they were not human.

A typical one is below, from one of my favorite Broncs. But what people from out-of-town won't ever grasp is that in many ways, Elway practically built Denver as a sports town. If it weren't for the Broncos drawing crowds and winning, and playing on the national stage, would there be the Rockies and Coors field? Would there be Pepsi Center and the Avalanche? Would there have been a rennovation of LoDo, and a boom in the economy of Denver? Elway often carried the team, and this city, on his shoulders.

I may be a diehard Raiders fan but even I have to respect this man. I grew up in western nebraska where the only close pro teams are the ones in denver and the huskers so I saw a lot of him growing up I didn't root for him very much but I have to bow to his accomplishments
