It depends where I buy the box and how old it is. If I buy a box in Spain I freeze, the only evidence of beetles I have seen has been in boxes bought there. According to a study I read somewhere, beetle eggs do not remain viable after 9 months to 1 year. If the box is older than that, I'll inspect the cigars but normally do not freeze. Another source in Europe I buy from freeze the cigars themselves. I believe them, I've seen their freezer. I suppose the answer is, if you're not sure, freeze.

I've never frozen a box of cigars in my life and have never had bettle one. Guess I have been lucky. I keep my Habanos segregated anyway , each box separate and apart from any other. The only cigars that go into my humidors are singles and samplers.

I always thought we used freezing as a last measure and in the event of obvious evidence of beetle presence. But looks like you guys do it regularly as a screening tool. How? And will the cigars remain as good as they were before freezing?

All cigars exported legitimatly from Cuba are frozen prior to shipment. When I get cigars I still freeze them regardless of where they come from, period. I will not take any chances of having an infestation, too much $$$ invested.

Wow it's usually a general consensus with questions like this. But this is split almost 50/50. I know about how to keep your cigars some of you did not read my question it was prior to storing them. Well I am just as confused as before. I to wonder even if your freeze them it will change the taste. I just ordered some CC and am wondering what protocol to use. Freeze them or let them rest in a separate humidor before I transfer them to the big humidor.
