Journey was on the airwaves in the 70's and still gets airtime today.

I like good rock. But it has to be good.

It has to be more than the catchiness of the tune or the provocativeness of the lyrics.

Originality, lyrics, vocals, orchestration, musician's skill, the ability to provoke emotion...all important.

A personal favourite
Don't stop Believing

Used to hear this everyday in the 70's.
Wheel in the Sky

Lovin Touchin Squeezin

Anyway you want it.

Not my favorite, but not bad. "Don't Stop Believing" was probably their best effort but my memories of that song were irrevocably altered by the last episode of The Sopranos.

I'm a fan...Don't Stop Believing gets a lot of play time in the bars here because of the line..."Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit"

Always like "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin." It was on K-Tel's "Rock Album" that we has when I was a kid. Puts it at the top of my favorites list along with "Don't Fear The Reaper."

Some of Journey's ballads really don't make the grade, though. Sappy with a capital "S."

I was a big fan back "in the day". Now I hear some of it and wonder what was I thinking?

i may be just a young gun but i love journey!! all of their songs...not a big fan of steve perry's solo career tho, "Oh Sherrie" has got to be one of his worst songs ever....another good band is Kansas, my dad's GF opened for them last summer and they were amazing live

I definitely love journey. They have an almost timeless catchyness to their songs. You can hear them sung by parents and college students alike.

gave a nod to them

I love Journey. One of my favorite songs period is Send Her My Love. Amazing tune. There were a lot of crap pop-rock bands back, who Journey unfortunately shared stylists with it seems. But to me they were the real deal. Their music sounds truly inspired.

Apparently none of you have ever heard the real Journey. Do yourself a favor and get a hold of the first three albums. 1975 – 1977.

Fusion or progressive rock as we referred to it at the time, this would later prove to be the real hallmark of the original band. Although the Infinity work was great with “Perry” who looked too much like a chick, future albums were commercial pop garbage that could never hold a candle to the early stuff.

There are Journey fans, and then there are the real ones.

Yeah...those first albums...the ones that didn't sell and the concerts no one went to? You're right...I missed those...I'm more than happy with the "fake" Journey I guess...the group that made the popular music... Wink

it woulda been easier if i was alive back then to hear the stuff nobody plays now...but since i was born in 1987 i just have my dad's vinyls to listen to...including: beatle's white album (with white vinyl disc) among the others, cheap trick live at budokhan, various journey, various kansas, styx, etc....

EDIT: and jag...where are you at in MI?

I think the early Journey stuff is crap. I had it all at some point. Kind of like early Police stuff.

Journey had Neil Schon & Greg Rollie from Santana's band. They sounded better in Santana!

Great scene in the Wedding Singer where the string quartet is performing "Don't Stop Believing" I used to have a boss who would give everyone a break on the loading dock if Journey came on the radio. we would just sit back and enjoy the Journey
