Just got my JR catalog yesterday. Love the fact that none of thier cigars seem to be "the most maduro of the maduros" or some of that other claptrap that Thompsons prints.

I dont buy from them all the time but do on ocassion. And I never miss a stop at JR Cigars in Faragut Square in DC when Im there. Talk about the world's grandest cigar store. Im ready to run away from home and live in a DC flop house just to be able to work behind the counter there.

But their catalog always seems to me to be a work of art. The cigars are photographed in such lush and vivid quality that I swear you could almost peel them off the page, roll them up, and smoke them.

This is certainly not an earth shattering revelation.

But my hat is off to JR Cigars catalog and the superb job of production that they do on it.

While JR's sometimes goes overboard on the description, their photos are great. That is one of the things I love about their site, they show pics of most cigars when you browse through, so you get a feel for the shape and size. Especially helpful when ordering a new size you haven't tried. Not to mention all the pics in the catalog are like cigar porn...even if they do bias it towards their own brands.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday and must agree the pictures are very nice..however they just dont carry the brands really i look for.

There's a JR's near me I've been there once and wasn't very impressed by the selection. I picked up a JR Alternate tho, just for fun.

People aren't smoking cigars to be trendy, cool or stylish. They're smoking cigars because they like them. Because they enjoy the experience. Because for about $5 they can spend an hour sampling one of life's greatest luxuries.

I like cigar porn! Give me pics of long sexy naked cigars with nothing but tehir deep brown, golden tan wrappers...I need a smoke just thinking about it!

Bub,

If I had a JR's closer I'd go bankrupt. It's bad enough that Holt's is only 15 minutes away. Both JR's are up in North Jersey, over an hour away. I only ever seem to get to the one in Manhattan, because I go to NYC more often than North Jersey.

Good inexpensive cigars to try at JR's:
Honduran Factory Corojos
Mayorgas
Maria Mancini
Fonseca
Cuba Aliados
Henry Clay

Cigar porn is the perfect description and God help me Im a degenerate cigar porn addict.

The JRs in DC is incredible! The whole store is a humidor and the long oval shaped mahogany cigar counter must be a hundred years old and worth the cost of my house.

Anybody going to DC should add it to their list of must visit attractions. Send the wife to the chocolate store next door. Cause in the DC store you just select, nip, and light up. Then spend a very pleasant hour or so discussing cigars with instant friends.

I have only been to DC about seven times. Found it the seond time. Never miss it now when I go.

I love Holt's. I usually go to where they distribute, not the one in Center City, since it's easier for me to get to. How about you?

Smokem and Bub,

There are two locations, Center City Philly and Northeast Philly. When I am just on a cigar run I go to the NE Philly location. It's attached to their warehouse so they literally stock everything on the premises...you just might have to wait while they go back their and get it. The Center City store is well stocked but too inconvenient for quick trips. I hit them usually weekends or holidays when I am in the city. They close at 5-6pm, but then Mahogany is right next door, the best (only?) cigar lounge in Philly, so I buy some premo sticks and then roll next door to smoke them.

Bub you won't see LFD at many big shops. They avoid dealing with big name outfits because they are still a fairly small boutique brands. They don't like to undercut their small brick and mortar shops. Holt's is one of the only big outfits I know of that carries a good selection of LFD. Also let me know how you like the ERH, they are an interesting smoke. Definitely a kick in the pants.

Bub,
They have some good promotions several times a year like the one with the Playboy Playmate who comes in for the Don Diego Playboy promotion. Cigar isn't much but Miss June sure was!

JR's has very good printers and ad-men. Too bad I can't say the same for their "house" versions of name cigars. Not my cup of tea by any stretch and I smoked Grenadiers when I started out.

Ain't that tough enough?!
