I never stopped- limited snow in central illinois ment only 23 days missed due to weather this last winter. But a good spring oil change and tire check is in order. 18k last year- no time in shop and only one loose nut that needed tightening.

I never stopped either. Ride year round - everywhere but the grocery store.

What are you riding? I ride a Suzuki SV1000 and a SV650.

I ride a KLR650 for on/off road, and a FLHT for a road bike. Bought the Harley brand new in 1997 and have 65,000 miles on it. Only thing I have done to it is put in a Crane F310. We plan on riding to Sturgis in August. It will be my fifth time there. Love watching the people.

Sold my lowrider a few years ago to finance a trip to Europe, wish I had stayed at home. One of my sons friends killed himself night before last on a crotch rocket, the boy was seventeen on a borrowed bike on a country road that has bad curves and pot wholes. He went into a turn and didn't make it out.Seemed to have been a good kid, but I beleive he was unfamiluar with that road. Be careful guys.

I usually ride all year round but I had some issues to deal with the last couple of years that prevented me from doing so. Now Im back on track. I have a 99 honda Magna (its the last year honda did the custom paint on the Magna, Black with the reddish-Orange scallops with silver pinstipes for the outline), with cobra Slashcuts ( I want to get some Jardine Drags). I bought it brand new and paid it off, I luv the $h!t out of it.

MCNUT, I want a SV 650 really bad.

One of the main reasons I moved to Florida....I can ride year round, though it's odd, I think I rode more when I lived in Virgina (too D@mn hot in the summer during the daytime.....night rides are great though).

I have an '88 Softail (in my .Sig picture), an '89 FLHTC (Geezer Glide - I made a complete circuit of the US in 1990, and made many trips from D.C. to Daytona on it), and a '90 Heritage Softail I rebuilt to look like an early Panhead: (tank shift, rocker clutch, kicker, etc) a couple of pics on my homepage:
http://home.cfl.rr.com/rbihari/

I got rid of my crotch rocket last year ('93 Kawa ZX11) after my insurance agent threatened to drop me (way too fast). I bought them all brand new when HDs were reasonably (relatively) priced.....
Every time I walk into a Harley dealer, I'm hit with sticker shock ! Eek

I like Evos anyway....I don't really care for the Twin-Cam..... but then, I grew up on Pans and Knuckles....and never really liked the Shovelheads.
Cool

I used to ride a Honda F4i. I'm now in the market and should have it soon an SV650. How do you like it motorcyclenut? I've been stuck between the 650 and the 1000. Insurance isn't that much different. Price is about 2grand more. But I may want to race and the 650 class isn't that big..better chance. I'd like to hear your input on the bike. Thanks.

I usually ride either the royal star (big V4 vmax motor superheavyweight) or a Y2K ZX9R ninja. Although I am prone to ride full on customs and honda scooters from time to time! Its funny how many bikers scoff at mixed brands- but when its 18 degrees out a honda elite 250 scooter lets you ride where a big bike couldn`t. I am lucky to live in a state with no helmet laws, but also understand the laws of physics- very few people die if they have a helmet on. In fact a few years ago the death stats were 2000 and some deaths- 50% were intoxicated- and 14 were wearing helmets. Not to be a drag of course!EDITEDTO SAY Oh yeah- just wanted to add that I have owned or ridden everybike you guys have- and they are some of the best iron out there! It is truly a wonderful world when there is not one bike made that is less than steller!

I wanted to get a bike for a long time until I realized that I'd only be comfortable riding it where there weren't cars. And there are cars almost everywhere I go. So I decided to stick to the bicycle.

Saul;
You've got some great roads for motorcycling out there....I still remember a fantastic ride on my cross-country trip in 1990 - from Phoenix up to Sedona Canyon, and then over to Flagstaff ...I left just as the sun was coming up over the desert and started painting the mountains with light....breathtaking. Sedona was a religious experience, and the area around Flagstaff surprised me....never thought I'd get cold in Arizona. Some beautiful country.

Once I got away from Phoenix, I really didn't see much traffic at all....just had to watch out for the Armadillos (speed bumps with legs).
Get out and enjoy it....
Cool

Glad you made it through Oak Creek Canyon. Even on the freeway, I always enjoy the trip up to Flagstaff because of the change in the scenery as the elevation increases.

Rascus - Sorry I didn't respond sooner. They are both great bikes if you like the v-twin. The SV650 is a great track bike. When I worked at a Suzuki dealership all the mechanics raced the SV650. Can't keep up with the 4 cyl 1000's but with experience, they stuff the 1000's in the corners and breaking. Our salesman, always having to have the latest and greatest rocket bought a GSXR 1000 every year and put it on the track. Our head mechanic always raced in the 600 class and had a SV650. The experienced racer on the SV would keep up with the GSXR and always pass on the corners.

Had to come on and add a couple of thoughts. I lived in Hawaii from 1983-86 and took a Kaw Kz750 Spectra over with me. It broke my heart to see what the elements did to that bike. I road everyday and washed the bike often but the salt air still a job on the bike. How do you plan to keep it from getting corroded?

Great bike with great handling and rock solid. I have the SV1000 set up for touring going to work etc. The SV650 is more fun and loves the curves. Hope this helps and if you have specific questions just ask or email.

Thanks for your input there motorcyclenut. I had an Honda F4i that i brough over from cali and after awhile the rotor started to corroded a bit from the salt. I don't have a garage so I'm going to have to keep her outside, with a cover. Best I can do besides keeping it clean.

I'm going down to talk a deal today on the 650. The track out here has a novice class where the 650 fits in and isn't that crowded (compared to the inline 6's) I also plan on riding it everyday as well.

Should be fun. I'll have to post some photos up when I get it.

Thanks again.

Rascus- I think you will be happy with the 650. The only person I know who does not like it weighed in at close to 300 pounds. He was trying to run it on the track and he looked like a cow riding a lawn mower.

Anyway, have a great time on the track days and keep the rubber on the ground.

Although not on a bike, one of my most memorable drives was the same Phoenix to Sedona drive in a rented '98 Mustang GT convertible. The ex and I were out for a convention. Got up early one morning, took a hot air balloon ride over the desert, made the drive up, spent the day, drove home. BEAUTIFUL DRIVE!!!! Plus, we fell in with some truckers on the way up and were running 90-95 with the top down!

Funny story...we went up in the morning, back in the late afternoon. Got up the next morning and 1 side of my face was sunburned, one was white with literally a dividing line running right between my eyes. The timing worked out that the sun beat on the same side of my face on both drives.

As I've told saul, I will return to the area one day...gorgeous country out there.

A good cigar and a good drink on the back deck by the lake...if that doesn't make you relax, nothing will!

After reading all these posts, this one wins the prize. Is this english or some special motorcycle language? I am ignorant when it comes to bikes (obviously) although I like them and I didn't understand any part of this post. Big Grin Guess I have a lot to learn! Wink
