I'm rather new to the forums so I'd like to say hello and good smoking to you
I'm interested in rolling my own cigars, mostly for fun. I've bought some tobacco and will soon be growing it, and I thought, even though I KNOW the cigars I make will not be very good at all, it will be a fun way to pass the time.
Anyway, I've found some molds but what I can't find is the table-top cutter used to get each cigar the exact same length. Perhaps I could make one, but I'd rather not.
If anyone knows a website or a place which has one for sale, could you please point me in the right direction?
I'm in the process of drying my harvest for this year.
If you want a really great thread about growing do a search for Binders "Plantation" thread.
He has alot of great info.

I haven't seen a bench top cigar trimmer for less than $180. I think the reason is that they are only made for people in the business, so the market is small and any that are up for sale go through middlemen driving the price up.
Plus those table top trimmers are heavy, solid pieces, designed to last for decades. I've heard that cigar tools in some factories are literally 30-40 years old. I have some molds from Ernesto Perez-Carillo at LGC that were used for 20-30 years before they were retired.
I use an oversize holed single blade guillotine to trim my stogies and it works fine. Trust me, the bunching and wrapping are the hard parts, not the trimming. Heck I even leave some of mine shaggy just for a neat look and then trim it before I light it.
Thank you so much for your help and guidance in this subject. I have checked eBay with no luck. It looks like I may just trim the cigars with cigar scissors and leave them a little shaggy right before I smoke them. I'm SURE that I'll have some issues rolling them before I come up with a cigar that's smokeable
I'll check the "Plantation" post. Thanks again!
Oh, and I'll see you Saturday Night at the Las Vegas Big Smoke! I'm going to cough up the dough for that. I just can't pass it up. I'll be in Vegas for a wedding and it just so happens that the Big Smoke is THAT weekend! What LUCK!
Thanks,
Aaron

A lot of factories are going plastic because they are non porous, don't wear crack or chip and are cheap. I have seen some aluminum molds advertised that weren't for making cigars. One was a candy cigar mold for making chocolate cigars, the other was a candle mold, mistakenly identified as a cigar mold.
Most wood molds I have seen on Ebay and in person are too beat up to make cigars, plus I wouldn't want to put too much pressure on them.
Binder, I noticed that someone "donated" molds to you. Do you know another resource for these where they're not too terribly expensive? I found some new ones but they ere $90-$150 which is quite out of my price range at this point in time.
Thanks
Aaron

Keep your eyes peeled, I think CI was selling some a while back, used molds from a factory for $50 if I'm not mistaken. Keep an eye on Ebay. I lucked into mine. When I told Mike Gianini at LGC about my cigars, he was glad to help. You might try a similar and subtle mooch, just be sincere, tell you rstory to some people in the industry and you might luck out.

What is CI? Sorry.
So, perhaps I can talk to the guys at the Las Vegas Big Smoke? I wonder if they would be able to help me out. Of course, they're there to promote their brand so I dont think they'd take to kindly to competition (even though there is absolutely no possible way I would even come close haha).
Again, thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye out on ebay and Cigar Bid.
