I was never a heavy cigarette smoker, but smoked for about 2-3 yrs about one a day. I stopped completely about 6 months ago with an occasional cig when I drink with buddies.
I tinkered with cigarettes when i was a kid.Got up to three packs a day by the time i hit college. Then i found cigars quit cigarettes never went back. That was over 30 years ago.Now the smell of cigarettes is nasty.I don't know how i ever smoked those things.

I smoked through college, and it carried over for a few years afterwards, off and on, but not very heavily -- a pack would last me a few days. But I haven't smoked a cigarette since the mid-70s.
In a perfect world, lawmakers would recognize the difference between cigars and cigarettes. It's my view "big tobacco" comes as close as you can get to pure evil.

Smoked cigarettes for 25 years. Decided that breathing would be a good thing. Quit cigarettes in 1996. Started smoking cigars around 2000. Got *serious* about cigars about a year ago.
I've come to agree with Jack - cigarettes are evil, chemically-altered nasty things. And so are the people that make and market them.
So many cigars, so little time...

I could probably count the number of cigarettes I ever smoked on two hands.
Smoked my first cigar in college and occasionally off and on for the next 15 years or so. Had my first "real" cigar about 11 years ago, and have regularly enjoyed them for about the past 6 years.

Used to smoke cigaretts when I would get drunk. Ever since my last deployment I gag on the first drag. Made it through half of it then threw it out and haven't had one since.
Growing up in a household where both of my parents smoked, I came to despise cigarettes. I couldn't breath when the smoke hit me in my face. I still hate the smell of cigarettes. I started smoking cigars a couple of years ago and love them. I do have trouble breathing with cigar smoke that is too thick and doesn't dissapate quickly enough. As you can imagine, I rarely inhale even the slightest bit. All of this and I still smoke 3 to 6 a week.

Cigars only for me now. I used to smoke heavily up until about 12 years ago. 7 years ago I started again, but only during December. My excuse was that I worked in retail during the holiday season...I either have a cigarette or I kill someone. But I haven't had one in probably the last 4 or 5 years.

Never had a cigarette and never will. I can tolerate the whiff of a cigarette outside in the open but detest the smell indoors. I'm glad that cigarettes are no longer allowed in public places but it really grates on me that legislators have been unable to distinguish between cigars and cigarettes and that we have to hunt for a place to enjoy a cigar--one of the great pleasure of life.

i smoked camel non filter for 20years.then got tired of the addiction and quit in 1998.i have to agree with jack white those things are truly nasty ,cannot figure out what i saw in them also i lost my father and his sister and his brother to lung cancer,so hopefully i quit in time .cigars since 1990 and still love em!!!
I smoked cigarettes for about 10 years with occasional stogie once in a while, then for 3 years switched to pipe. Had to quit pipe when started doing my Master's, as there was really no time for the leisurely procedure of stuffing and lighting up the pipe, and went back to cigarettes. Some 3-4 years ago switched to small/light cigars/cigarillos (like H. Wintermans or Justus van Maurik). Got "serious" about real cigars about a year ago and very glad about that. So basically, I've tried every tobacco-containing stuff, good and bad...
Have to admit my mortal sin though - I still use cigarettes quite often especially when under stress. I wish I could stop it. Can anybody share with me experiences how do that?
