i was doing some reading about properly aging your cigars over time. saying that, the article recommended to use only the humi device/distilled water as oppsoed to beads, humi paks, etc. not sure what the science is behind that. But again, my question to your goodselves is the following:
I have a brand new humi device, i want to maintain a %65 RH level, +/- %1 maybe. but how do i go about saturating my device for the first time so i can get close the my preferred RH level? Is there a procedure in doing this? do i use teaspoon drops and slowly saturate the device? Logic tells me that if i soak or dunk my device in water, the RH will probably go through the roof.
thoughts? thanks in advance.

Use beads and forget about credo/sponge-type devices.

Fed, what you mean humi device/distilled water. Beads also use distilled water, except those not needing even that. I don't see any science - just the sticks need proper humidity and temp all the time, and preferrably kept in cedar something.

well,i guess i was more or less curious on how to properly maintain the credo device, or how are u supposed to use it? i know a shortcut and easy way to maintain the proper environment is using beads/humi paks. like i have now. i just wanted to know how isone supposed to use the credo sponge?

To use a credo properly you throw it in the trash.

Distilled water and Propylene glycol may be able to give you 70% humidity, but not less than that because the alcohol (Propylene Glycol) has certain hygroscopic qualities that reach stauration at about 70% RH (at 70 degrees)
Beads can be manufactured to control humidity at 65% or 70% and do not require PG. Distilled water is used because it does not have any dissolved minerals or other chemicals that can become offensive in a tightly closed humidor. It will not clog your humidifier with minirals wither.
