remember "stay the course" and the latest one that has begun to annoy me is that US attorneys "serve at the pleasure of the president". Speedy Gonzalez et al have been saying it constantly over the past week or so. Use an f'ing thesaurus people, please

Adolescent waiteresses that refer to me and my spouse (or whomever I am with) as "Guys". Yes, familiarity breeds contempt.

Team such and such 'controls their own destiny'.

How do you control your destiny?

'It is what it is'.

"To those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright: Tonight, we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope."

'My bad' - people say it like the phrase automatically washes away how they screwed up.

Wow, I've heard that at least 12 times this week

"person of interest". Far too many syllables. A suspect is a suspect.

Answer to Doc Barry:

"Go missing" with its related past tense "went missing" are gifts of the Brits. That term has been used in the UK for a long time. How it got across the pond is one of the mysteries of life.

No need to chase away "ly" at the end of adverbs. It is gone.

He runs quick. Real quick.
You might get hurt bad. Real bad.
I feel real good.

I thought it was only ignoramuses, hicks and western movies that spoke in this manner.

Thank you Doc!! That has bothered me over the last year as well. You expressed my sentiments exactly.

Awesome!

Totally!

It's a no brainer ...

thank you, docbarry. can't stand "went missing" myself.

also:
someone being "disrespected" -- "disrespect" is not a verb. i especially hate to see it used as a verb in legitimate articles, not as a quote. let's keep dumbing down the language, people.

and freink2 -- "serve at the pleasure..." is the legal terminology to describe the employment relationship. in my job, i serve at the pleasure of the chief judge and, just like the federal attorneys, could be out tomorrow w/ no explanation; obviously, i try to stay on his good side. but i agree that "serve at the pleasure" is grammatically a mouthfull -- just like "weapons of mass destruction", which could be replaced w/ "bombs and gas".

"outside the box" is one that has become very stale to me, too

I am sick of:
paradigm
synergy
"i'm not feelin' it"
