Okay, tonight I tried my turd Tatuaje from the Holts sampler I bought about a month ago. The first, a no. 2 style piramide, I tried a couple of weeks ago was a bust. It was tighter than my uncle Fudd, and what little flavor I could get from it was one dimensional and harsh. Definitely Nic, but a Nic from a bad neighborhood. The second, the 'Cojuno', or cornholio, had a fantastic draw...unfortunately. This one tasted like...well...like ass.
Which brings me, of course, to tonight; (I have no idea how to use a semicolon) Fantastic evening, mild, with a starlit sky, and a soft lake-warmed southerly breeze. A perfect twilight time for a great cigar...ummm, let's back up, it's another TATUAJE...this time, a Regio. OMG, what a dog turd. Harsh, great draw though, with hints of mildew and dog heine. I tossed it about an inch into it and grabbed a Sig IV.
Thank the Lord for Cohiba...lol.
What am I missing here with the Tatoo's?

I thought Tatuaje was made in the USA and I was also under the impression that they were the best thing since sliced bread. (I have never smoked one, I am just going by what others have said)
I guess everyone has his own tastes and favorites.

Yes, they have all been 'brown' labels...which is very appropriate...lol.
The two Tatuajes I smoked, crumbled when I clipped them. First one just burst and split real bad. So I went and got another for free. Second one same thing. So I smoked the second one, taste was ok but I had better. I wouldnt buy them again, but if given than so be it. Oh well.
I bought two Tainos because of all the hype. I didn't like the first one at all. I waited a while before trying the second, and didn't like that one either.
"Don't believe the hype" seems very apropos in this case.
Well, I'll stick up for them. First off, they're pretty harsh if you don't let them sit a while. After six months mine went from a little eh to spectacular. The Cojonu 2003 especially. Also, I have never, ever had a construction problem with one of these.
Finally, a semicolon is used to separate two independent clauses of the same sentence. An independent clause is a clause with a subject-verb-object that would be its own stand-alone sentence were it not for the fact that the thought was so closely related to the one before.

I liked both the 2003 and the 2006 Conoju (the former being better). They do have to sit for a while in the humi.

I'm a growing fan of these. Had one at Holts last week, picked up a few things as well, but lit up in the lounge, was just a great smoke IMHO. Have to get a few more to throw in the humi to save for the summer.

Ive had a few, absolutely loved them. These do seem to need a bit of time, but when well rested, rank right up there in my book with VSGs for high end NCs

VSG, hmmm, that may be why I don't really care for them that much. I'm not a huge fan of VSG's either.
I read somewhere once, that depending on the amount of acid in our saliva, so goes your taste preferences with cigars. Maybe I have too much or not enough acid in my system to enjoy this particular blend. I guess I'll have to add some acid to my body and try them again one day...or perhaps, I should reduce my acid by adding a little soda ash to my system.

Tab, what are your favorite cigars? Just curious because I kinda helped steer you wrong here, I just couldn't imagine someone not at least respecting Tatuaje but it's definitely a unique smoke.
One thing's for sure: if you hate Tatuaje, you can cross all the other DPG cigars off your list including Padilla 8&11 and 1932, DPG Blue Label and Serie JJ, etc. He works all of his tobacco the same and though the blends are all very different, they all have that signature DPG character.

LOL...you done me wrong!
Just kidding, my buds just don't go there. I also ordered a Padilla 8-11 sampler and I like these better than the Tatuaje, but not much. It's almost like Tatuaje was going for an Opus type flavor profile, but they really missed.
I'll let the Padilla's rest a few months before trying them agian.
Nice review and very descriptive as well. Could ask how you know what some of those things taste like but I don't want to know. I have had a few and made a couple of trades for some more. They are cettainly not "all that and a bag of chips", they are a decent smoke but surprisingly unremarkable given all of the hype..
I haven't had a bad Tatuaje ever. Of the several dozen I have smoked (red label, brown label and Conowhatzits) I've only had two that had some bite/roughness and even then they weren't terrible. The rest ranged from "good" to "OMFG excellent."
I'm especially surprised by the construction problems. I've only had a few where the draw was a little tight, but stil smokable. the rest have been perfect construction with beautifully finished caps.
To the gentleman who had one split upon snipping; a lot of things can cause that, most of them are storage related, not contruction related.
