As soon as I saw it and without reading the copy I know it was from "T".

Place the humidification element in the top or in the top drawer.

As for seasoning, place a dish with a damp sponge in the bottom drawer and leave it there until the hygrometer reads about 75. As the hygrometer that comes with the unit is analog (and from "T" to boot) I would recommend that you invest in a digital hygrometer

hmm that looks like a good price, while I'm here I might as well ask a question. I know Thompson is a horrible place to get cigars, but how are their humidors?

I got a 50 count box from them when I was a noob and now I use it to store lighters and cutters, because it won't keep my cigars safe...

Good luck, CU, with your purchase...I hope you find more success than I did...

Good price. Like Doc said get a digital hygrometer. I would also maybe think of heartfelt beads.

Was it used (i guess so) ?

What do you think about buying used humidor ? is it safe or you have to really know what you are doing in order to make a safe buy ?

Gespinoza1 : Rush rules Big Grin saw them on Snake and Arrow tour... it was a blast !

Thanks

Fred

Looks good, even if it doesnt work out, $25 is so insignificant anymore, it was worth a try. Wipe it down with a sponnge and distilled water. It wont warp the wood, unless its fake sp. cedar. Best of luck with that purchase

Yea, i wouldn't have to...but he left it open form when i left until i showed back up the following day, 24 hours later, so I don't want to chance it not being seasoned still...he left the door open to it because he took all his sticks and humidification devices out and left it open....don't ask me why, cuz i have no idea

and Robbie: no problem bro, glad to help a fellow stogie lover out!!

For the reasons stated by Doc and dstokely.

I think all members who've been here for a few months have trained themselves to react to the "T" word the same way they would react to seeing a picture of their naked grandmothers.

Thompson is alot like the "Wal-Mart" of the cigar world. Mass production is primary focus as opposed to quality. They are notorious for shipping bad quality and then claiming its not their fault. Plus since they are the "Wal-Mart" they take away from the "little guy." This is all what I have gathered and IMO. So take this however you will.

Couldn't help but notice the horror at the mention of "T" ( I won't scare anyone here). Are the issues with the branded cigars or with their house brands? I have bought some samplers over the years without a problem. Curious as to what problems have been encountered.

I've had bad experiences with their products and their customer service when I was a noob...

I bought a humidor, followed the seasoning instructions, and couldn't get the box to hold humidity...called them up for an exchange or a refund, they told me something else to try, assured me that it was my failure and not the humidor...no luck again...called them again to look for an exchange, or offered to mail it to them to examine...they told me i was past the timeframe for returns...i told them that if they would have listened the first time, i would have had ample time to return

They literally kept suggesting things to try until my window for returns expired, then they said "sorry."

I also didn't like the bombardment of emails, phone calls to sell me memberships, etc...

I know some people have had success, but my experience is one of many, and with so many stellar retailers out there, I'll never take a chance with them again...

yeah for $25 you cant really go wrong.

I also recommend getting a digital hygro and doing a salt test while you wait for your humi to season. Besides if this $25 humi doesn't work out you'll have a calibrated hygro for your next humi.

In regards to people "dreading" the "T" word...
I used to work for them. I was one of the dreaded telemarketers. I LOVED helping folks when they called in to order cigars. Having been a cigar smoker for many years, I could steer them in the right direction if they had questions. I could also help them choose from the various "House Brands" in order to get a cigar they would enjoy at a price that is nice.

The downside is that they pushed me hard to do outbound calls to sell the cigar club. I HATED doing that and eventually quit because of that requirement. They've got absolutely NO COMMON SENSE when it comes to pushing that club. We LOST more customers (permenantly) than we signed up simply because PEOPLE DON'T LIKE UNSOLICITED PHONE CALLS. The point is, if they are interested in joining the club, they'll DO IT. The ones we signed up were usually NEWBIES who would stay members for a couple of months, then wise up and quit. But from a business standpoint, that sold huge volumes of cigars, so they "justified it." I don't know if they still push as hard or not, but you can always ask them to put your number on their DO NOT CALL list and they are required to do so.

Aside from that, you CAN get some great deals ther just like you can at the other catalog stores. I still buy cigars from them as I buy from others as well. The bottom line? Do your due diligence on comparison pricing on product and don't let the "T" word scare you. Just tell them, "I DON'T WANNA JOIN YOUR FRIGGIN' CIGAR CLUB AND I DO WANT YOU TO PUT ME ON YOUR DO NOT CALL LIST!!" You'll be fine. But I'd also suggest that with the other companies as well.
