2008 Toyota Corolla. 1.6 XLi. Japanese made for the Gulf region.

Now I know this is nothing in the US, but in Egypt's standards it's pretty good, considering it costs double it's price in the US thanks to customs and taxes. And my father is a Toyota addict, he'd take a Toyota over anything else, including Mercedes. (just like my grandpa who was a Mercedes addict till this one time he bought a Toyota and hasn't stepped into a Mercedes since then).

Now I get to take his old car (1996 Corolla) which is just awesome, with only 45K kilometers mileage, instead of my crappy Fiat Siena.

Just need to get her a good sound system and I am ready to go.

Congrats on the new car. I have to say that when I got my first car it was one of the most exciting points in my life.

I'm planning on getting a new one this summer some time...hopefully...so I get to feel that excitement again!

Make sure that sound system is a good one!

Congrats. Toyotas tend to be very reliable, as do many Japanese-built cars.

Enjoy the new ride Lucky. I had a 97 Corolla once. It was ugly and slow but very reliable.

So now are you going to work on sealing it? Throw a Cigar Oasis II XL in there and you've got yourself the only rolling humidor in Egypt.

don't forget to add some additional AC units that runs even when your car's not turned on so it won't be a hotbox full of CCs

Nice. My grandmother has the new corolla. Great economy car. I've always been a toyota guy. Little more rattly then in the old days though. Probly has to do with volume.

Lucky said 45K kilometers...that's only 28,000 miles...what, did your dad just drive up and down the driveway for 12 years?
That's only 200 miles a month over 12 years...

Your dad needs to get out more... Big Grin

I'm picking up my wife's 4th Corolla in a few days.
It's a reliable automobile. It does not break often.

Well, my father has spent most of the last 12 years outside Egypt so he hasn't driven it a lot. Even when he was here, his clinic was in the same building he lived in so he didn't need to drive, and the university where he works is not really far and he doesn't go everyday. He just goes when he feels like going or when he has a lecture to give which is once or twice every 3 weeks.

But I think the new car will make more mileage faster, because he is living in Egypt more now (6 months in the year) and we moved to a new house a little bit farther from his clinic and the university. And these days he seems to go to the university more than he used to do before.

Just giving you a hard time, Lucky...

My mother bought a brand new 1981 VW rabbit, it hadn't broken 40K by 1998...the car never left the small town I grew up in...we always took the 'family' car for longer trips...

So I can relate...
