So I'm buying a humidor.

Luckily I work close enough to a decent shop to not have to worry about storage much but since I have begun looking at boxes over the last few months instead of just a whole lot of singles...I think I need one.

Obviously appearance is a personal choice but is there anything in particular to look out for, avoid, etc as well as particularly good brands and so on?

I have been looking at a walnut burl, 75 ct one online if that helps. I'm not into the glass tops or extensive decoration, just a nice piece of wood that works.

Check out cheaphumidors.com for a nice selection. Thankfully the one I found was only 25 bucks more at my B&M and I didn't want to wait LOL. I didn't want a glass top either on my new one but now I find myself wanting to look at all my sticks a lot more than I used to. Good luck!

i just bought one a few weeks ago. And as Master Yoda always told Luke....

"Patience.........mmmmyes"

it takes time to stablize the RH. But it is def. worth it. Give it at least a week. I also nuked my bowl of distilled water for about 45 seconds or until it was rather warm to the touch. This REALLY sped everything up. But i still left the bowl in for a few days.

Besides that, make sure the inner wood is Spanish Cedar. Roll Eyes Most of the time i have seen it is. Supposedly this repels the infamous beetles that have been cracklin in my cigars. I guess Beetles dont like the taste or something. I just think it has a brilliant aroma.

Good luck.

I not sure of the different brands. I have a Savory and it works for me. Make sure it has spanish cedar, get a digi hydrometer, and 100 ct if your looking at 75 ct. 75 ct is what I have and I wish I would have bought a bigger one. But a humidor is definitly the way to go.

OK, storage and count aside. How much are you willing to spend?

Not a lot really.

I've been into cigars for about two years or so now and although loving it am not in a position to make a big drop on something like this for the moment. I've got other things to think about like another crib and more diapers for one.

I'm figuring if I can find something decent and unproblematic I like for $150 then excellent but assuming it is worth it and something I enjoy then more cash is certainly an option. I can't se myself going above $250 though. In another 2-4 years then we’ll see.

Essentially it's a luxury for me alone so I'm not going to go nuts quite yet.

Dam. Missed the Tampa humidor sale and I even have relatives in Tampa on vacation at the moment. Thanks for the notice though.

BTW those same relatives will be in FL for a few more days around Tampa, Orlando and Cocoa Beach.

Suggestions on humidors or cigars they might pick me up?

Man, for $150 you shouldn't have a problem finding a good humi around a 100 ct. I bought the craftmans bench "taj mahal" and love it! It was $200 at my local shop but you don't have to get that one. It's a bit more because of the wood. Check out the online deals at places like cheaphumidors or tampa. If you like padron's tampa has some good prices on them.

hey Man, I saw where you said $150 for a humi is what you would spend. I purchased my most recent one from premiumhumidors.com and I absolutely love it. I ended up getting the 200ct 7 drawer humidor(which I already have it full, and it has close to 300 cigars in it). and it was $168- But they have a blemished section where they have the seven drawer humi for $135.00- so you might take a look. It is great, and keeps great humidity.. heres the site..

oh, and shipping isnt through the roof, like most sites shipping a decent size humi, is very pricey.. for me it was $25 shipping for the 7 drawer at premium Humi's

Yeah, truthfully I'm a bit suspect of the local shops selling them. I'm in Canada and the variety is limited. They sell quality I don't doubt but the prices seem a bit high.

there's a maple burl, 75 ct that looks nice but they are asking $160 and I think it's too high.

I bought my Savory which holds 75 cigars for $59 plus tax. Thats before I found out about TH. But if I were you I would buy a 100 count, with selves and dividers.

buy a bigger one than you think you'll need.

they never hold as much as you think they will and people tend to ourgrow thier first one pretty quickly.

I agree with buying bigger, but if you want something now, here is one to consider:

Look at the Savoy XL

Savoy-Serious Cigars

They have them for $180, and hold a decent amount of cigars. Its the one I currently own.

I defenitely agree with buying bigger as long as you can afford it because you will always out grow your first humidor. My last humidor is an endtable model and even now I wish I could have afforded something bigger.
