Need a little help from you experienced people. I just started smoking about 3 weeks now and I want some advice on what humidor to purchase, and also what cigars are good for a starter.

I am looking at this humidor, as it was recommended by someone to me, and I was wondering what you all thought of it...

Savoy Cigar Top Maple Burl Humidor

And I was thinking of starting off with this variety pack.....

Cigar Lover's Diary Robusto Selection

Thanks to all of those who can handle my newbieness, but we all have start somewhere Smile

Welcome Log, I'm somewhat of a noob my self in posting. Take the advise of many here that will advise you to purchase the largest Humi within your budget as they will fill up fast and then you'll be looking for the 2nd and 3rd. My second was a Savoy and it has been great. I can't speak to the smokes your asking about and that will better left to the experienced smokers here. I mostly lurk in the background reading and taking notes. There is tons of info here and be sure to use the Find / search feature on information your seeking as many questions have been asked before. There is a good group of members here, humorous, witty, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Have a good stay.

welcome to the boards. I agree with bgoodz comments. I am a fairly new smoker and can only tell you what I like. I have the Savoy large and I can tell that I will be needing to put together a coolerator pretty soon at the rate I am going. I cant seem to stop buying 5 packs here and there. Use the search feature and you will get alot of questions answered. I started smoking mild sticks and now enjoy the bolder ones. I cant seem to pass up the CAO Brazilia amazons and the Torano golds these days. Hope this helps.

Don't know anything about the humidor, but I have read some decent reviews of Savoys. Instead of the Altadis diary, look around at some of the sampler packs available. I haven't smoked many NCs in the past few years, but when I did I would have preferred Padrons or La Flor Dominicanas to the Altadis brands. The Padrons are mild to medium bodied whereas some of the LFD are pretty strong. Try as many different smokes as you can until you find what you like.

Thanks a lot for the kind words and warm reception. Maybe I should just go to my local cigar shop and try stuff instead of buying packs. As for the humidor maybe I will go with the 300cigar humi by Savoy Savoy Black Humidor

Thanks again guys.

I am a total noob to the forums as well, welcome, brother.

Anyhoo, I am currently curing my first humidor, a Savoy bubinga (med). It seems to be very well made, solid spanish cedar with the bubinga veneer. It forms a good seal. I am going with 65% beads for the humidifier (Thanks for the advice, guys). The only problem is that I already wish I had gotten the larger size...

Beads are an alternative to foam for humidification. Foam can be difficult to work with to keep the right RH level. Beads and Dryimastat tubes are much easier. Check out the info here:

I have had a savoy bubinga XL for the past year and a half. Its a great humidor. I can fit about 200 robustos in it with no problem. I exchanged the analog hygro for a digi and changed out the foam with beads. It holds great for a month or two at a time with no refilling necessary.

The sampler on the other hand is garbage. My advice, for what its worth, would be to steer clear of altadis. I continue to believe you cannot go wrong with torano, camacho, padron, padilla, and even fuente to some degree although they are overpriced often times. They make the ashton and the diamond crown lines which are both very good. If you can handle a stout cigar then the JDN and LFD lines are good too. Another cigar that you might dig is the CAO brazilia pirhana. Its a spicy little flavor bomb with a uniquely brazilian twist to it. The torano sig is a brazilian maduro and the cao brazilia is a natural brazilian wrapper. Both are excellent and have a nice floral aspect to them.

I got mine for 139 but the prices have gone up significantly since then. 200 is the average price I have seen. Keep smoking those camachos after a while they won't even phase you anymore and when the flavors start to come through you will wonder how you were ever satisfied with milder offerings.

Heartfelt beads. Climaxx seems to be out of business. There's a good FAQ on this board.
