Unless you are a wholesale jewler you will not really be getting any bargins in The Netherlands. You will be buying retain even at places that claim they are selling wholesale to all.
With diamonds, unless you are very knowledgible be very wary as they could sell you a stone with a large flaw and unless you knew what to look for you would never know until you went to have it appraised.

although I'm no expert when it gets to stones, I have done quite some reasearch on the matter, and would most probably be able to see any flaw that is worth seeing (with my 10x magnifying glass)...
now antwerpen is in Belgium, and is supposed to be THE place... there's an area in there that is 1Km square, and that has all the diamond stuff in there (bourses, wholesailers, cutters and retailers).. I know there are good deals to be had there.. it's just that someone mentioned once to me that there was a diamond tour they took in AMsterdam, and that during the toor they were saying that it was very cheap to buy the diamonds in Amsterdam (but this might've been a simple sales pitch)..
this is my dilemma... I will be stopping by both cities, but again, any info i can get beforehand would be great
I'm certainly no expert either, but more than flaws, I'd be concerned about 'cultured' diamonds (not sure if that is the term, but I'm referring to man-made diamonds).
Apparently, since they are truly diamonds, regardless of their source, they would be impossible to distinguish from natural diamonds, and are much cheaper in the market. The danger would be that you buy a cultured diamond at natural diamond prices.
Enjoy your trip! Any cigar shopping on your itinerary?
