I have gotten a ton of info thus far from this board, and was curious about another descriptive that was asked of me the other day. I, as I had mentioned, am a wine freak, and have my weekly (what I call my pizza/hamburger wine)wine, my once a month, and my very special once a year wine. These are mainly due to price, collectability, and taste. When at the local cigar shop, I was asked what my "daily" cigar of choice was.. I, being new, have been trying many different brands, types, sizes, etc.. but would not say that I have a "daily". I was curious as to what yall's "dailys" were. What makes a cigar a daily to you? Or, like wine, do you have ceartain cigars, according to your meal, day, mood, etc.?

I used to love the Old Fashioned bundles, which were indistinguishable from Mac and Partagas, but the last batch (three bundles) were lumpy, irregular "apprentice" cigars. Never again on those.

For me the "daily" is only a factor on days when I work. I usually smoke a moderately priced robusto during my lunch hour on those days. I get the 10 cigar sampler of robustos from JR Cigars & pick and choose for my daily:

Intresting responses.. I take it that most go on Mood, when deciding what to smoke regularlly. I thought that maybe a particular meal, or particular wine would call for a ceartain stick.. Kinda like picking a wine to go with a meal. intresting..

these are my usual smokes when i stop into my local cigar bar, usually, i'm only there for an hour or two, but for the last week, i've been staying up to 5 hours on my days off work, here's the usual line-up for each day

I have to ask again, because I am not sure if maybe re-wording might answer a question for me. Do you smoke a ceartain cigar due to a particular meal, or drink that you may be having. Something that would compliment the other taste. I know that I have found ceartain cigars to go well (or better than others) with ceartain wines, or meals. Is this just me, or do you guys just grab a cigar that you want, instead of pairing..

Pairing is, to my amateur abilities anyway, all about matching body. Drink a heavy Sicilian wine with a heavy cigar, maybe drink a light, sweet port with a Davidoff. Meals are similar: Red meat, heavy cigar. Fish, again a nice Davidoff or RyJ Reserva Real.

However, the parings aren't that stringent or sophisticated. Just match with mood. You won't really find cigar sommeliers who will say, "ah, you'll want the Padron Anniversario Natural in the Monarca vitola to bring out the piquant spices in the pork." It's a lot simpler than that, at least the way I do it.

Thanks Scott. I guess, being from a wine background, I tend to match food to drink, to mood, to etc... And due to that, I have found similar combos with cigars. I was just curious if that held true for others.

My dailys depend on what I have and my mood. Generally I smoke a GR Special every day (cause at a buck and a half I can afford em.) I often have a La Aurora 1495 or a Leon Jimenes Don Fernando. Those are my staples...I then add in other cigars depending on weathr mood and time available.

Padrons meets all my needs.

Dailys, wow what a wonderfull time to remember what I have smoked over the years, right now & for about the past 6 to 8 years I start the morning with a Don Carlos III , before that it was a Montecristo corona , I try to start my day with a corona & build in size & strenght through out the day finishing the day with a Mombacho tripple Ligero, I get that jolt of power & taste to carry me through the night , I havent found a way to smoke in my sleep yet ! I average 3 to 7 cigars a day, depending on what I am doing , where I am going & who is here , I picked up 5 Graycliffs last week , I have 3 left, , at 22 bucks each I dont smoke a lot of them, but I do take the time to pour a single malt , make a pot of espresso & light up a Doubble R Davidoff , or a Bundle cigar , they are all wonderful when you take the time to appricate the care & work that went into making that cigar you are smoking , I like a lot of different cigars , I like to age them as long as I can stand to look at them getting that wonderful blume on them , I just get ants in my pants & want it NOW . right now I am enjoyiong a cup of Indian Malabar coffee & a Partagas 150 corona , that is the way to start the day ! First off, wow Vinny, you average five cigars a day?!.. ("3 to 7"). Is this normal for others here? I would say that I average 5-6 a week right now. I look forward to a cigar at night on my deck, or after a great meal with some wine or whiskey. I see them more as treats and a vessel to relaxation.

My daily smokes during the week tend to be of the smaller vitola as time tends to be an issue. Usually I'll smoke 2 per day. My favorites are:

I agree with rik, I am at about 3 to 4 a week. Usually at night when I can sit on the front porch. Choice depends on how long I have, what I had to eat for supper or things like that. For instance, If I had a pretty lrage supper, pasta, steak, you know, the heavy items, then I will go with something more medium bodied. That's basically my choosing factors...

I recall the words of a Davidoff sales rep who said their motto is, "smoke less, smoke better."

I limit my smoking to three or so a week, though G-d knows I'd do three or so a day if I could. My wife isn't shy about vocalizing her health concerns and, frankly, when I smoke too much, I really feel it when I'm at the gym.

Still, it's nice to make a treat out of them, to look forward to them, as you said, with some wine on the back porch after a meal. I have no back porch but the truth of it nevertheless holds.

My 5-6 may also be a little on the higher side, as today is Friday, and I have smoked two cigars this week.. We are all different, and obviously some smoke more than others. I am an avid rock climber and cyclist, and yes, more cigars would take away from my other activities as well. To each his own. Vinny, enjoy your cigars. I think that I really enjoy mine more when they come every now and then, as opposed to all the time. Just my opinion though.

Absolutely agree. No judgment here on anyone who smokes more than I do, it's just a personal thing. Like I said, I wish I could. I think one of the problems is I inhale a little, being a former cigarette smoker.

But back to the topic at hand - our "dailies" - I think I could always rely on Rocky Patel's vintage series to provide me with a good smoke that suits any occassion. You just can't go wrong with it.
