I just read a post on a news group saying that a states attorney general has had credit card companys to stop tobacco purchases with credit cards.

Attorneys general from New York, California, Oregon, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Wisconsin signed the agreement.

A online tobacco retailer who mainly sells cigarettes online has sent notices to all of their customers with this notice. They say it applies to all tobacco products including cigars.

Has anyone else heard of this? I purchase most of my cigars online using my credit card. I know if Paypal suspects you buying tobacco products using their service they will cancel your account. I hope the major card companys are not going to this policy.

Our government is getting way too involved in our daily lives. They are imposing this rule not for our health but because online purchases do not include tax.

I guess if it's true one could use those throw away credit cards. I received one for x-mas in the amount of $50.00. After I reached the limit I simiply threw away the card away as it was useless.

Money orders and cashiers checks come to mind but that would take a while for one to receive their order.

I doubt it's true because online merchants, including tobacco retailers, use credits cards as a method of age verification (to ensure the buyer is 18 y.o. or older).

Did the post say what the basis was for the state's AGs demand?

I'm glad Kansas wasn't mentioned. Razz
