Hi everyone,

I just got back from my trip to Cuba, it was very nice. I'll post something about it later this week.

My immediate problem is with the cigar I just brought back. I have 5 boxes. I put them in my coolerdor and after 6 houts, RH was about 80%. I tried to cut my florist oasis in two and it didn't change much. I use a 24 qt cooler and my oasis is now the size of a golf ball. I then tried to take the oasis out of the humidor and after a night, it is still at 75% RH. Does this means that my cigar are that much overhumidified ? What should I do ?

I use florist green oasis with PG and distilled water. I store the cigars with their boxes.

Thanks
Fred

Yes, it’s the new cigars & boxes that raised the humidity.

If you were using beads (Heartfelt) they would help in reducing the RH.

Take your oasis out and open the cooler for about five minutes every hour until the RH drops to where you would expect it. When it does, you can put your Oasis back in but I would highly recommend switching to 65% beads, which not only add humidity, they can lower it as-well.

Hopefully you Hygrometer is calibrated.

hey Steve,

The hygro is digital and calibrated. Thanks for the tip. I will try that.

If the oasis is too much trouble, I will consider using something else.

Thanks
Fred

if the RH is too high (and at 75-80 itS' way too high) you have lower it..

here are a couple of simple things to do to lower your RH:

add dry beads in the cooler
add empty dried out cedar cigar boxes to your cooler
add dry cedar inserts in your cooler (the sheets they put in cigar boxes)
add spanish cedar planks (1/4" thick ) to your cooler. (bought from a specialised lumber yard)

Hey Salibas,

How do you call Spanish Cedar in french ? is it simply "Cèdre Espagnol" ?

Should they have that at the nearest Home Depot or Rona ?

Thanks
Fred

hey fred... i did not notice you were from quebec...

i did not find spanish cedar neither at home depot nor at reno depot. I found some in a specailised lumber yard called LANGEVIN ET FOREST. I'm not sure if they're only in montreal or if they're in quebec city..

do a search on the toile for "spanish cedar quebec".. this is how I found them.

Hey

"Langevin et Forest" are only in montreal. I've done some reaearch and did not found anything here.

I'm gonna try calling some wood shops in the Pages Jaunes. Smaller shops don't have websites anyways.

Cheers
