most of the veteran members on here (I obviously am not or do not profess to be one) will tell you that if the shops are in the U.S. and say they have cc stashed away, 95% or more of the time they are fake (statistic borrowed from either extensioncord or sheepshead bay). the second question can be answered by doing a search of the cuban cigar section. there was just a thread on this very topic a few weeks ago.

Cubans are illegal to sell or possess in the United States. If you want more info on the Cuban cigar market then check out the Cuban forum here on CA.

95? probably 99.9% fake...for two reasons. 1) obvious difficulting in getting legit cigars and 2) you'd have to be insane to risk your business by selling a couple cuban cigars...even if you did have access to them. So i'd say most shops know they are selling fakes.

They are only illegal to posess if they were imported AFTER the embargo.

Check out the CUBA issue of Cigar Aficianado- it has everything you may want to know.

Bear

PS- Don't try to buy cubans in the US,... they won't be cuban. If you want someting real, take a vacation down to mexico and grab one there.

Alright, no need to be rude. Mexico is a huge place, and if you try and buy a "cuban" in TJ or other ghetto neighborhoods, granted you are going to get ripped off. However, there are plenty of places that you can find good cuban cigars.

Bear

PS- Smith and Winter- try to be constructive in the forums. Sarcasm makes one look very ignorant and disrespectful.

Save your money and tastebuds. The under-the-counter Cuban stash is a fraud.

Isn't there a $10,000+ fine for US cigar shops caught selling cubans?

Also, since there are alot of fakes, how would anyone charge the shop and prove they are real cubans to make the charges stick?

Sry to be so harsh, but I feel that sarcasm is degrading to the whole community and has disasterous negative effect. We all love the same thing here, and because each person is at a different point in their experience I have no toleration for it. Please don't take it personal, it's just a huge pet peeve of mine.

I understand your reasoning for the comment, too. It is extremly easy to get ripped of trying to buy a cuban. Anybody who finds one, let me know, cuz you're gonna get mega-kudos from me.

Bear

So what's your fav smoke, Winter?

Smith, you seem to be the kind of guy who would cause me to discontinue a good smoke and walk out of the cigar lounge because of your negativity.

Read the post above about sarcasm and try to be constructive. Bringing people down is amazingly childish. If you have an opposing viewpoint or an alternate experience, share it wisely. Otherwise, stop wasting time with negative reactions.

these forums are for people to share their opinions in an intelligent and kind way while giving constructive criticism at times

so smith if you cant understand that keep your negative criticism to yourself please because many people here have no need or want for it.

Seems like alot of people get into arguments on here over small things. I am new, but every thread seems to come to this.

Sorry, just an observation...

I think that sometimes people are far to quick to reply, swank. (yes, I am guilty, too). Not thinking a reply through can always cause trouble, lol.

I shared my opinion (ok, maybe with a little sarcasam - didn't you see the Wink). If you think you can just travel down to Mexico to get a real Cooban, think again.
