You surely cannot say that the LA Times is conservative spin
True enough. But it's important to make the distinction between personal observations in a blog, like the one you referenced, and news reporting.
Nothing against blogs ... I read a lot of them.

Smart woman. (Not that I like her, by any stretch of the imagination)
Iowa, as we all know, is primarily a red state. I don't know if anyone has noticed yet, but the liberal republicans and the democrats are under intense fire from voters and politicos regarding immigration reform. It will be interesting how things turn out, especially with some of our 180-degree republicans who have endorsed open borders in the past and have recently decided that endorsing closed borders policy would be a positive political strategy change.
Infuriating. Dam hypocrites.

Wow..Hillary wouldn't comment on Bhutto? You would think she would trumpet the success and exaggerate the tragedy of another prominant female politician!

You couldn't mean our esteemed former governor Mitt "I support a woman's right to choose and I'm for paving the way for undocumented workers to become citizens. Ummm...wait a minute. No, I don't" Romney, could you??

It was a decision made by her campaign advisors and acceded to by the candidate, at least for the time being. Hillary bashers will spin that one way, supporters another, disinterested observers yet another.
It's Iowa politics, people. Filter out the spin.

Or the esteemed former senator from New York. After Senator Chris Dodd pointed out that driver's licenses are a privilege, not a right, and that they shouldn't be given to illegal aliens, Hillary Clinton then said "I just want to add I did not say that it should be done". This right after she said she agreed with the Spitzer plan a minute earlier. It should also be noted that when Tim Russert asked "Does anyone here believe that an illegal immigrant should not have a driver's license?" Chris Dodd was the only Democrat candidate that opposed illegal alien driver's licenses. Russert then put it plain and clear "Do you the New York Senator, Hillary Clinton, support the New York Governor's Plan to give illegal immigrants driver's licenses? You told the New Hampshire Press 'it made a lot of sense'."
"You know Tim, this is where everybody plays gotcha." Hillary Clinton said.
And yes I'll play gotcha, Hillary. It's a simple yes or no answer. You either think illegal aliens should get a driver's license or you don't.

I agree 100%, however I would not call her smart, I think shrewd fits her better. She will not answer questions because she is very poor at answering them right without someone there to analyze her commentary before she makes it. I'm pretty sure she will get the nomination however I'm also pretty sure she will be a lot easier to beat in the general election than most believe. She is disliked by far too many to win if she's going up against anyone viable. Of course there is the wild card of Bloomberg, who may come in. If he does, he pares her votes away and she's finished.

The point is that she can't be allowed to speak because she can't keep putting her foot in her mouth. (Even as big as her mouth is...). It's interesting that her strategists have shut her up rather than giving her some generic, end-all line; but then again, I'm no political strategist.

There's a political reason for everything, as I'm sure you're aware.
Sen. Clinton entertained and answered questions at all her appearances before the Christmas break. Now, with the caucuses coming up shortly, her campaign has advised a strategy that will allow her to make six Iowa appearances in the same time span in which she used to make four. Taking questions after campaign speeches preclude this, and also make it more difficult to stay on message.
Whether or not it's a good strategy remains to be seen. But whatever the outcome, it has nothing to do with "how smart she is". Nor is it as simple as "she refuses to answer direct questions".

I am a conservative and I know Hillary is smart. The final say as to how to proceed with a campaign belings to the candidate. She is not answering questions because she doesn't want to.

Of course it's her decision. But your take, in my view, is much too simplistic.
It's not so much because she doesn't [i[want[/i] to stay around and answer questions after an appearance. It's that she's bought into the strategy of her campaign to cram in more appearances, though it means not being able to entertain questions.
I'm not an ardent supporter of Sen. Clinton -- I haven't decided if she's my choice (though I'd vote for her over any of the GOP candidates). But I'm not sure where all the hateful, vehement Hillary bashing is coming from, other than it's what Limbaugh, O'Reilly, et. al., are telling you guys to think. It's clear that among the other Democratic candidates, she's the least liberal.
Of course, in that group, it's relative.

No, she is not the least liberal, she is pandering and trying to be the centrist so that she can appeal to the centrists in the general election. Trust me, if she were to win, you'd she that she would be by far the most liberal president we ever had. Secondly, she is not answering questions because she has been advised not to...the same reason she will not go before any real interviewers, she will flub it up. She's "trying to fit in more appearances?" Now that's spin...
