To me, that means that absent constitutional mandates, some caveats around public safety, and the provision of infrastructure which cannot be efficiently provided by the private sector, the government (federal, state and local) should pretty much stay out of the way.
How about you?

I'm with you crazypoet. Jeebus, don't talk about the effects of deregulation, because deregulation has to be paired with accountability. The bailout completely negated the purpose of deregulation.
I'm sorry, it isn't the taxpayers jobs to pay when people can't pay their bills. That is a ridiculous ideal that contradicts the nature of capitalism. And I hate to break it to you, even if it is poorly executed, our country is capitalist. If you don't like it, move. Don't make us another socialist/communist failure.

Yes, properly managed, de-regulation is the best option across the board. But de-regulation requires a couple of supports to work: Transparency and due-diligence
De-regulation without transparency and due-diligence is what brought us here.
People buying things (including both mortgages and securities) they didn't understand, and people selling things they didn't need to describe.
There is a place for regulation, but only at the outer edges of the market (trading fail-safes, for example), and to ensure transparency.
What we've had for the last several years is de-regulation without a balancing increase in transparency, and a dismal failure of due-diligence on all sides.
