I am headed to Chicago around memorial day for some leisure - Cubs game, sightseeing, relaxation, etc.
How has the smoking ban effected those establishments? Can one still have a good smoke and a drink in an establishment, and if so, what are some favorite spots in the area?

Lets see, I went to an Outdoor shopping mall about 50 west of Chicago, and All Smoking has been BANNED from the OutDoor Mall, I even got a $150.00 ticket for smoking a cc there , all because I REFUSED to put it out you cant even smoke while your in your car, while on the malls property ! ( $75.00 ticket for that 1 ). There is a steak house in Schaumburg, IL. that allows smoking in a Tent alongside their building, But Nothing inside anymore. At a Cubs game, was just warned to put out my cigarette, needless said I was also gone from the game, But I still love the Cubs and the game.

You cannot smoke within 15 feet (I think) of a public building. I know some restaurants have allowed it where their outdoor seating is a distance from the building (Erie St. Cafe). I also know that some tobacco shops have thumbed their noses (or know a way around the law) as I have purchased smokes from Up Down Tobacco several times and more than a few patrons were smoking.
But these observations have been few and far between. Overall, the smoking Nazis have won out. ****ers.

I knew that amendment was added to the bill, but I didn't realize it made it through. Good to know.

Heres the ILLINOIS LAW : As of January 1, 2008, the Smoke-Free Illinois Act requires that public places and places of employment must be completely smoke-free inside and within 15 feet from entrances, exits, windows that open and ventilation intakes. This includes but is not limited to:
Public places and buildings, offices, elevators, restrooms, theaters, museums, libraries, educational institutions, schools, commercial establishments, enclosed shopping centers and retail stores Restaurants, bars, taverns and gaming facilities Lobbies, reception areas, hallways, meeting rooms, waiting rooms, break rooms and other common-use areas Concert halls, auditoriums, enclosed or partially enclosed sports arenas, bowling alleys, skating rinks, convention facilities, polling places and private clubs Hospitals, health care facilities, health care clinics, child care, adult care or other similar social service care No less than 75 percent of hotel or motel sleeping quarters rented to guests Public conveyances, government-owned vehicles and vehicles open to the public

I've read of a few places in the suburbs -- not downtown -- which sold enough tobacco to separate the business from the rest of the establishment and do a carry-in drink service. Essentially a tobacco shop within a restaurant.

In reality, Im Fighting Both tickets with my Lawyer in tow and then some, you see, the mall has it marked as to the smoking areas for the Employee's who work there, and it was in one of those areas I was smoking in! the one for me in my car, is another story, for if Aurora PD, is going to bust everybody for smoking in their cars, then they will be in for a LONG summer when at that mall and ALL the other malls in their town.
