Lighters and torches and flamethrowers are all nice, but I refuse to light a good cigar with anything but three matches. Not one, not two, not four, but three. Perhaps I'm a little OCD when it comes to that?

No, no, not at all - there are at least two other options: 1. Your name is Gordon Mott, and you do that only when there is time and appropriate conditions. 2. You are formerly or maybe even currently a Mexican journalist/press attache.
If none of the above, then I guess, yeah... you said it.
For those who didn't get this - watch the most recent video of CA.
My Xikar crapped out on me. To hold me over I picked up a 4.00 Ronson jetlite at the local CVS drug store.
It works well so far, even if it craps out in 6 months to a year I'll be ahead of the game. I'll just get another and spend the extra buck on more smokes.
Originally posted by MTMouse: Ronson Jetlite I hear you can get them for $3.00 at WalMart. I've had mine for 9 months hasn't let me down yet.
I ordered 5 more off their website for $5.95 each. The US site had them for $5.95 with a can of refill.
Trick is; don't use Ronson fuel and make sure you drain it completely before you refill it.
I agree, for the $ nothing better than a Ronson. They look nice, last forever, and can take a beating. As was already noted, the trick is using quality fuel.
I guess I am late to the party, but I have 2 Nibo - 1 double and 1 triple flame, and if you don't cram the foot into the burners, you can back off and toast light a cigar fairly easily with those.
I also have a single flame Lotus that I bought strictly for the style of the lighter - it is a nice looking lighter for ~$30

question for all, is it better (and i know this has alot to do with personal preference) to use a torch or a flame? Im considering splurging and getting a Dupont, but only if it really is top notch. Are most of their lighters for cigars or only the torches? Thanks!

You can get a very good ST Dupont soft flame lighter for cigars. Try Here:

Soft flame is a non-torch. Torches are great for quick lighting and outdoors (breezes), but can really... "torch" your cigar if you're not careful. Many soft flame cigar lighters have dual flames, the better to toast (and not torch) the foot of a cigar. It's slower, but better IMO.
There is no "right" way other than what's right for you.
Again, this is just one opinion, but here is a very nice soft flame lighter for cigars:
