Zippo had a booth at the Big Smoke Vegas, but I did not get to see a demonstration of the lighter. Reviews have hailed it as comparable to the higher end lighters you will find, but I am wary to get one before I am able to see a consistency in reliable use. If the thing is going to break every other day (like the Colibri lighters I have purchased) then they hold no interest.

Well I need to buy a new lighter...right now Im forced to use a bic. I was on the zippo website and the price for it was 49.99. Thats probably the most I would spend on one. Im curious does anyone have some suggestions for lighters that are reliable and well made.

The Xtend is one of the best. I have had mine now for like 4 years and never a problem. That being said since Xikar is making lighters it is a no brainer...lifetime warranty.
I bought one of these Z-plus zippo inserts, it worked great for a few months, now it is hard to light. Neat idea if you have a zippo you like, but don't want to use b/c of the oily fuel. I have heard alot about the Xikar brand, looks like that is the route I'll be going. http://www.elighters.com/zplus.html

Just get a bunch of wooden matches while you are shopping for your new lighter. Don't use a bic... unless you get z-plus butane insert. I use a Xikar executive which is really dependable so far for me. I did the research myself when i was in the market for a new lighter and cutter. Ebay that xikar and you'll get it for 20 bucks from Vintage Chic LLC which was recommended as well. You can get the combo lighter and Xi2 cutter which i also use for $46 total.

Yeah where I get my cigars from the guy said I should get that instead of buying the Zippo but I would rather not get it. I would like to get a Xikar but from what Ive seen so far they have a piezo ignition and I havent heard good things about that type of ignition.

If you like the Zippo style go try the Ronson first. If you can't find them at your local Walmart for $3.00, here is a link to order them. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

I second the Ronson JetLite recommendation. I read about them on another cigar bulletin board. I couldn't find one at Wal-mart, but a RiteAid drugstore had them for about $4. Lasted several weeks without a refill, still works well and has a 1-year warranty.
I've read on other boards that with minimal maintenance (using premium fuel, cleaning burners with air cans) they can last indefinitely, but for $3-$4, who cares?
I have a Zippo torch (not the Zippo Blu - just a butane torch that fits in a regular Zippo case.) I like it a lot - it works quite well and I've always liked the look of Zippos. It's especially nice because it allowed me to use the Zippo case I had before I started smoking cigars, and I love that case - metallic blue with an engraved angel/nymph thing. It's cool.

I have had one since day one on the market. It is everything it is advertised to be. Has the Zippo click top, standard zippo flint light single flame torch. Short commings are the tank is realatively small. The falm is not adjustable so as the butane burns off the flame height drops. It has a tank viewing window but it is very narrow and you can't see the level of the remaing fluid unless you are in the right light or use a flashlight.
Comes in several differnet styles but throughout they have the same guts the difference in price is based on the external case design and materials. All in all it is nice and at the low end a good lighter and with the replaceble flint has a long term life expectancy.
