I came across this idea on one of the other forums and thought it was a cool concept. So with a big nod to STIG, here goes:

Everyone has a sleeper cigar, that cigar that you found that no one else really talks about but you know is real tasty and think others would like.

Then there is the surprises, those cigars that you weren't expecting much from that just blew you socks off when finaly got around to smoking it.

And last but certainly not least is the moped factor, (always fun to ride until your friends see you doing it) those cigars that you really like but don't ususaly smoke around your friends for fear of that "What the hell are you thinking smoking that" look from them.

So tell me, what are your sleepers surprises and mopeds?

Peace

My sleeper is Henry Clay Brevas. Never hear much about them but it has a wonderfull flavor profile.
Its a nice slow burning smoke for when I just want to sit back and contimplate the moment.
My surprise is the Dunhill Canary Island Panatela. I saw these in a local shop and was hesitant to buy them as I'm not a huge fan of ultra mild cigars let alone the slim ring size. The smoke was wonderfull. Mild but very flavorfull with a perfect draw and burn. I liked it so much I bought the remaining few that he had. Extensioncord informed me that these are no longer made and have some good age on them.
The moped? Well Las Memorias Cubana Gordo. Part of the La Tradicion Cubana line out of little Havana. 60 ring size with a nice medium bodied flavor. Spicy and nutty. I usualy don't find that combo in a value botique smoke.
Well thats my three.
Interesting post for sure.

What a great topic.

My sleeper cigar would be the cheap little machine-made Partagas Chicos. They're small but contain loads of Cuban flavor. They're perfect with coffee in the morning.

The surprise is the Joya de Nicaragua lancero. I'm heavily biased toward CC's and wasn't expecting much from this $5 smoke, but it blew me away with its complexity.

The moped...well, I hate to admit it, but I bought some of those Drew Estate Naturals for my wife to try. I took a few puffs off hers and, whadyaknow, it was pretty tasty. It's like a cigar for people who would rather have a piece of chocolate cake and a mocha than a real cigar. I can't really think of an occasion where I would choose it over a "real" cigar, but I admit it, it was yummy in its own right.

Another moped might be the Nat Sherman VIP line. It's a mild, Connecticut-shade dog rocket. It's one of the cigars I cut my teeth on back in the late 90's. To this day the taste of it brings me back to New York in the Silicon Alley and Giuliani days. Good times. The Nat Sherman is still a dog rocket, though.

Sometimes those dog rockets can bring back good memories. I know its not a cigar but Borkum Riff pipe tobacco always reminds me of my dad, with the pipe in his teeth around the yard.

my moped? Robert Burns in the tube, what I started on way back when.

Good topic.
My sleeper would be a Bolivar No 1 tubo, seems to get very little mention, always a great smoke, also the Upmann Monarch. I'll have my last one tonight and pick up another box when I'm in Gibraltar next week.
My surprises recently have been the Partagas 898V, just had another one, lovely. I had a 5 Vegas Serie A Alpha recently sent over from the US. I don't smoke many non cubans apart from the odd sampler but that was very nice. Certainly one of the more complex non cubans I've had.
My mopeds are the romeos no 1 and 2 tubes. They can have tight draws but when they are good they are very nice and the tubes can be handy. They are also my starter cubans from nearly twenty years ago.
