what in the hell? s**t i'll light up a swisher before i touch one of those things

I was taught a month ago
to bide my time and take is slow
but then I learned just yesterday
to rush and never waste the day
now I'm convinced the whole day long
that all I learn is always wrong
and things are true that I forget
but no one taught that to me yet

You know the real probem? It's being in the bathroom doing your business and the guy that gave you the cigar as a present is standing next to you with a net to collect the gold back. Can anyone say "Earthy with hints of crap"?

I'm going to leave the wrapping on my next Bolivar Gold Medal. That'll look real posh.
If there's a market for those gold wrapped cigars then why not make them. Just because most people here wouldn't smoke them doesn't mean he won't find buyers. Every day of the week I see people spending money on things I think are silly. Most people I know think regular cigars are silly and waste of money.
I'm only slowly bringing some of them around.

Sure but, I mean, the only interest of these cigars is that they are wrapped in gold leaf which, by Mr. Delafée own admission, is perfectly tasteless.

The tobacco seems to have no real bearing in what this cigar is about. And that is plain "Twilight Zone" stuff...

It's like : "Hey, wine lovers ! I've got this really sub-standard wine BUT it's in a GOLD bottle !"

However, I agree that if there are some people who'll buy it, why not sell it to them...

I'd say this about sums it up...

I can see some really obnoxious elitist smoking the gold cigar as a showoff, but the gold flakes is really over the top. And that gold flake shaker for $20??!!!!

I guess if you sell it, they'll buy it. However it's funny that they put the ad on facebook where the majority of users is a bunch of poor broke college kids. Not the smartest way to spend ad money ey?

actually I think it is.. in fact, I think it's genius...

think of it.. who better to spread the news around than a bunch of college kids with too much time to chat, IM, facebook and myspace all their friends about this mistyerious gold cigar...

marketing is all about creating a buzz.. making people talk about it.. and you know what, this is exactly what's happening.. people are talking bout it...

I think its Polish, at least a polish friend of mine brought me some back, apparently its very cheap over there. I haven't opened it yet but when I do I'm going to have myself a martini (is it vodka?). And to be honest I reckon I'll look f-ing cool.

There's also this stuff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldschl%C3%A4ger
which is widely available most places I've been.
Handy if you ever need to locate your poo with metal detector. I can't see any other reason for it.

I agree with what you're saying but there are many people with a lot of money who smoke cigars not for the flavour or aroma but the image, they couldn't give a toss about the tobacco. I'm sure many of us see these people every day. If some of those people happen to like gold too...
There are also plenty of people who buy one product over another because of the packaging. That's often the only reason some products even have packaging.
Look at the way some cigars are packaged now, gold bar shapes, neon lights etc. It won't make the cigars taste any better.

Danzig is a city located on the Oder River on the Baltic Sea and is indeed polish .It's right on the Polish/German border.Over the centuries it had been going back and forth between those two states depending who always won the war.

Q: Why would any knowledgeable and self-respecting cigar smoker spend $100+ on a crappy unknown cigar wrapped in gold leaf when he/she could spend considerably less and obtain a world renowned cigar, or a tired and true personal favorite that they might actually enjoy?

A: In order to be a tacky, asshat, bling-bling fake-o.

These cigars aren't for aficionados; these cigars are for dumb asses who know nothing except conspicuous consumption. They thrive on it. It is their filler. I call these people Yuppies, Hummer drivers, and Wheeds. These ridiculous cigars are for the people who you see taking themselves way too seriously, the people who make you think, "what an absolute bloody tit." This is the archetype of those who look not to enjoy themselves, but to expect shallow impressions from others in order to feel falsely superior.
