Until I actually buy a humidor, will keeping the cigars in their wrapper, in a sealed plastic box with some distilled water ok? Or will I get a plastic favor you of them? (gladware and tupperware etc.)

Do a search on the forum for tuperdor or coolerdor - you'll find plenty. Bottom line is what you are planning is fine.

Another option would be to use a humipouch, which is basically a zip-lock bag that will keep your cigars at 70%RH. They have different sizes available, with the largest bags holding a box of cigars.
