AT 11 AM EDT...1500Z...THE GOVERNMENT OF CUBA HAS ISSUED A HURRICANE WATCH FOR THE FOLLOWING PROVINCES OF WESTERN CUBA...PINAR DEL RIO...LA HABANA...CIUDAD DE LA HABANA...MATANZAS...AND THE ISLE OF YOUTH.
As of 1700 Eastern Time, the storm, now Hurricane Charley, is about 630 miles SE of Miami, which puts it just south of Jamaica.
It is projected to hit somewhere around the Ft.Meyers/Naples area Friday morning.
Then it will be heading up to where Tropical Storm Bonnie (soon to be hurricane?) is making a landing tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
That is all guesswork of course. If the storm slows down (movement-wise) it will turn and hit us here in the Homestead/Miami area. If it speeds up a little, it will bypass Ft.Meyers and probably hit somewhere up by Tampa instead.
We'll see tomorrow morning how things look with the morning update.
After what I went through with Hurrican Andrew in 1992, I'm really not looking forward to a direct hit, even if it is by a category one storm.
