Gentleman,
I have been looking for a special humidor but nothing has caught my eye. I have even ran it thru my mind of building my own and eventually taking orders for custom units.
Until then I need my first humidor. What I came up with is to use my antique ice box that was built in 1900. The ice box has the sheet metal lining so the humidity would not effect it. The size of it would handle more cigars then I would ever smoke.
What are your thoughts..
Thank you
Rick

Wanna bet?

If it can be made pretty air tight it would work. Many old humidors had copper or sheet metal linings, the only problem might be rust..

You could line the inside with Spanish cedar, then, depending on the size either add a cigar oasis or other active humidification system (passive might be too small for a fridge)

Someone on this forum did the very same thing, and it is sweet. Search around, I think you can find it....

This old ice box even has the orginal wire shelves in it. And something that I dont see very often is a ceramic tank that sits next to the ice shelf. There is a opening in the top of the box with a brass cover and a faucet in the front.
Didnt want to add anything to it execpt spanish cedar trays for my cigars. Would there by any problem with using as it is? How tight does it need to seal?

Thanks
Rick

If I'm not mistaking, MT gutted his box out, disassembled it, refinished it, reassembled it then completely lined it with the ceder. He used the top section with trays, and the bottom section with shelves. Quite a beautiful piece of work actually. That link (I think you have to join to get in there) goes to a step by step of what he did including pictures.
