The more I get into this hobby, the more I see a lack of sweet gadgets:
1. A thermometer/hygrometer that can graph temp/RH over time. I would use it. Yes I'm a nerd. (eg. see how often your wine cooler is kicking in, see its effect. or see what happens when you heater shuts off while you are at work.)
2. Cooling device for desktops. They have tiny USB single can coolers. I would think you can make something that can cool a med/large desktop humidor.
3. Humi-cam: watch your cigars while your at work. (ok, that one is a joke).

I'm sure there's some teched out weather station that connects to your pc and records the ambient rh stats with a remote sensor...
Might cost a pretty penny though. I like the idea.

OMG, that would be awesome. With a web-based interface, so you can check your temp/RH from anywhere around the world. Even make adjustments! awwweesssooommmmeeeee.

That would be nice.

That would be nice, however I can already see a pissed off ex girlfriend who opts to hack into this system and change your settings to 85/85 while you are away on buisness.
A cigar oasis like device that not only handles humidity but also temperature and is actually accurate without calibration. It'll also have a wireless monitor so you don't have to open your lid. And of course a little laser to kill any beetles.

there's tons of info on peltier coolers out there.. I worked for a while on trying to convert a humi cabinet into a cooled one with pelltier coolers..
check out this link if you want info on sizing: (how big of a thermo-electric unit you need to cool down a certain enclosure). it's a great software that you plug in your varaiables (size of box, insulation thickness, etc...) and it will tell you how many Watts of power you need to drop the temp by the number of degrees you specify (delta between ambient air and encloseure air)...
you'll find that the big problem with that, is if the cabinet you're using is not properly insulated, you will need a HUGE unit (or multiple smaller ones) to properly cool it.. and that is the big problem, as the units are bulky, heavy and not cheap..
as for powering them, it's very simple... you need to get a temperature controller and a power supply for your coolers, and voilà.. it's done...
I have lots more info on thermoelectric cooling if you'd like..I have spent a considerable amount of time researching it.. I even considered building a cabinet from scratch, insulating it, and installing a couple of peltier coolers in it... but then it became more cost efficient to simply buy a couple of thermo-electric wine coolers (4 to be precise) and convert them into humis... and this is what I'm doing these days...
