I recently purchased a box of 20 cigars. I have a humidor but it already has cigars in it so I cannot fit all 20 new cigars in. The cigars came in a wooden box. Each cigar is wrapped in plastic. My question is what would be the best way to keep these cigars healthy? Keep them in the wooden box they came in? Keep them in the plastic? Put the box in a ziplock with a humidifying sponge? Do you catch my drift? Thanks for any help!

Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?

Hello and welcome!

1) Find a ziplock or similar bag that will accomodate the cigar box, then order a Boveda pack (69%) and put it in there with them and they should be just fine. Keep them in the cellophane wrappers for now.

My advice is to move them five at a time to your other humidor to smoke so that you minimize the number of times you open the zip lock bag. But open it at least one a week.

2) Start shopping for a larger, secondary humidor!

Now, you can't ask questions about cigars without telling us what they are, it isn't fair. Smile

Thanks for the tip. The cellophane brings up another question that has been on my mind since I began smoking. When purchasing cigars in cellophane, glass or metal cases, how long should you keep them in their enclosure?

They are Victor Sinclair Primeros.

Personally, if they arent premium cigars that I plan to age (aka just goto smokes), I leave them in the cellophane just in case they have beetles, thus preventing them from ruining some of your better stock.

The cigars can be stored with them on, though they do tend to age better if kept without.

Since the question is "how long?" rather than "should I or should I not?" I'm not going to flame you for not searching the forums before asking a question that has been answered for about million times. Big Grin The answer is: as long as you wish - it's a matter of personal preference. It makes no difference if you are going to smoke them within months, but if you're putting them to age for years, people say cigars will age quicker (not necessarily better) if packaging removed. When carrying cigars around, it's obvious that cello or tubes help protect them from damage.
Blue Humi - cello won't protect from beetles. Ask Doc, he's seen the bugs eat thru cello. But of course, they can't get through metal or glass, unless evil alien bugs provide them with mini-blasters Eek

I always have a couple of Fuente humibags ready to go. Great for travel and isolating cigars while they acclimate. I get them at www.elighters.com

Yup. The question is used or unused? If used, you can then treat a cigar kept in that to a new GF. You know, to get her accustomed to what taste she'd be feeling very soon...
