Just got my April 2010 issue of Cigar Afficionado. Who the hell is Phil Ivey and what good did he do for the world for being on the cover? What about George Lopez or Hugh Grant(non-smoker by the way) who got caught with a prostitute? Seems to me that some of the people featured on the covers are not the "role models" I got used to anymore. Oh and I "loved" the Jay-Z issue... almost cancelled. Expecting all the crazy heated up responses. Oh, and before you call me racist, my wife is Hispanic and we adopted a black puppy from the rescue Smile.

Poker and cigars are a natural combination.

Never heard of Phil Ivey? Don't get me wrong, i am not a huge poker player, or a fan of watching it on TV, but i thought everyone know Phil Ivey by now. Eek

Phil is about as big of class act as one can find these days, and i can think of no reason why he should not be on the cover. He also is one of the best poker players on the planet.

I would have to agree with you. Why not some people that are in the cigar industry.

That won't sell mags to the occasional cigar smoker. cA is not just geared towards the serious cigar smoker, they have branched out into a lifestyle format.

Don't play poker, don't watch it and if you say he is big news... sounds great. I personally believe they should feature someone with more connection to us born before the 1970's. As I said I welcome everyone's reply, won't get offended no matter what the response.

Jwebb,

I love the format of the magazine, I just don't agree with the peeps featured on the cover and their stories...

I agree with you there. I but i think its more about seller more copies than anything. I don't even bother to subscribe to CA anymore. Over the years, its been less and less about cigars, and more and more about Golf, luxury items, and lifestyle.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with that. lots of people seem to like it that way.

Reddot, I agree with you but It's not going to change unless the cigar world is taken by storm and there are enough of us to buy the mag on cigar related info only. If I wanted to read about a poker player then I'd buy a poker mag.

What do you mean? Most of the people on the covers are quite old, and some have been dead for some time. Even the females are old.

I can see the connection, but the story is empty... has no soul.

You are absolutely right, should have worded it in a different way. I was referring to the kid on the cover...

Well, each issue has a story on an individual or even a whole family that is involved in the manufacturing. This edition has an awesome article on the Oliva family.
