Welcome to the new Cigar Talk. This is place for general chat about cigars. Here you can post your personal opinions on a cigar brand, discuss counterfeit cigars, ask other posters where to find hot or new brands or just chat about the latest cigar news.

If you can talk about it over cigars, it's fair game here. And I've talked about a LOT of things over cigars, from politics and religion to what company makes the best chinos (Bill's Khakis in Reading, PA, by the way).

I happen to like the discourse here. We're all BOTL so even when the discussion gets heated, it's still taking place within a community united by our love of cigars.

Some topics I participate in, some I choose to ignore. It's rare that I don't learn something from other members' views, even if they are very different from my own.

Just as I would if I were sitting face-to-face out on a patio somewhere with a bunch of other cigar lovers.

I dont see that listed in the heading of the forum.

I came onto this forum to learn more about cigars and meet ppl. If I wanted to listen to political bablling, I would go into the politcal borad. If I wanted to learn about cigar reviews, I would go in there. I just consider anything not about cigar talk spam and it has been very deep in here this week.

I understand, but certainly it's easy enough to ignore the topics you're not interested in. Or simply confine your visits to the "Cuban Cigars," "Non-Cuban Cigars" and "Cigar Review" sections.

I think it's unrealistic to expect an eclectic bunch like this to confine themselves to ONLY cigar-related chat.

And besides, we all disagree a lot about cigars too. And any disagreement, by its very nature, has some political component. That's simply the unavoidable dynamics of human interaction.

I usually do ignore those posts. I just saw this thread pop up and wanted to voice my opinion and speak up that I think this forum should be limited to those discussions that are pertinent.

I agree with the takes of Littoines and Extension Cord. These are the types of topics one discusses in the barber shop, or the cigar store while enjoying a stick. I don't agree with some postings, but I do find them entertaining and educational. Great insight is offered by the folks posting, and I agree that this group collectively can't write solely about cigars. I usually switch threads when two posters start going head-to-head with personal insults, but doesn't that happen at the cigar store too? But in person, it's more spontaneous and more fun to watch.

As for Cigar Talk, by reviewing the threads, we've talked about muscle cars, Harvey Korman, Bo Diddley, D-Day, knee surgery, wristwatch (or timepiece, if you prefer) maintenance and all kinds of things. Again, the stuff fellas (assuming the forums are comprised mostly of males, although women are surely welcome) talk about at the cigar store. I don't read everything, but I do read most of the posts. Viva la difference! My humble take, to take or leave...

Do you think that there is anything new to be said about cigars that hasn't been covered a hundred times? This place would die within a month if the conversation were limited to cigar related topics only.

I highly doubt that. There are a number of cigar forums that have a seperate section for polical / religious conversations or don't allow them at all. There is never a shortage of conversation that I've seen on them.

I understand that the hosts of this forum do not want to create a seperate forum for such conversations...it's they're forum and they're going to run it how they want to. That's been stated before in here and in the "Dear Editors" section.

Doesn't mean that I have to agree with it though. I get frustrated when 13 threads on the first page of this forum are all political in nature. It actualy drives me away from here most times.
