Aparently the US State dept has finally pulled its collective head out of its a$$ and has publicly announced a reasonable stance regarding the Honduran political crisis.
In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Thomas Shannon stressed that what is most important in Honduras are the presidential elections set for November 29, and that the United States government has already committed to fully supporting them. Mr. Shannon also stated that the US would respect whatever decision the Honduran Congress takes on the matter of reinstating Manuel Zelaya as president. He said that the solution to the political crisis that has prevailed in Honduras since June 28 will have to be an Honduran one.

Duh. Why did it take 6 months of sanctions and bullying? Honduras is a poor country trying to preserve its democracy. The actions it took to depose a crooked President were all within the framework of its constutution, and all the while the US has taken the side of the leftists trying to impose their brand of socialism with the help of Hugo Chavez and ALBA? Now in the face of mounting critisim the State Dept comes up with this no brainer? Unbelievable. At least the cigars will keep coming...

The State Dep't is full of career pantywaists who always think in terms of "stability" and "continuity", even at the expense of a country's constitution, political system, will of the people, etc.

You have to shine the light of day to get the cockroaches to scatter - good on you Sid for staying on top of this.

It was the wannabe dictator Obama who postured the amazingly unAmerican stance by siding with the dictator and against freedom.

Six months later, bad polls, and Republican light on the situation, he can't keep that position. Even the liberal state dept seems normal up compared to Obama.

Wow. I missed this post. I hadn't heard this info. on my local TV. Roll Eyes

What I read into this, is that policy is made on a whim and at whatever level makes the most people happy or gains the policy maker the most power, based on the policy makers opinion of how ignorant and gullible the people are.

This is the antithesis of Integrity IMO.
