Every Republican politician can go out today and sodomize goats and have orgies with endless streams of hookers and coke and it won't affect the party one bit in the next POTUS election if the economy and housing market does not improve enough to the point where people feel Obama has made a difference.

LOL, you are too much.
Obama is crashing and burning and starting to rip the Dem party apart. Without the media, and in the full light of comparison to the Republican party, the Democrats wouldn't be a major party. Americans are aware of the media bias, combine that with the rise of the internet, and it's ain't looking too good for the media.
The only problem with the Repub party is the McCain RINO type. I have no idea what Palin's future is, but with Obama nationalizing industries and siding with Castro, his political capital is vanishing.
The future is pretty good. We ain't Europe and never will be.

I have to disagree. If Obama fails miserably it would mean that both the Democratic and Republican parties had already failed this country miserably and it would open up the possibility of a third party Libertarian to enter the race and mix things up like Perot did in '92. I don't think that a third party candidate would necessarily win, but they would make it a hard race for both Palin and Obama by taking the center vote. I think that Americans are sick of politics as usual and are fed up with both parties. If Obama doesn't work out they'll see that they don't need tax and spend socialism OR christian fascism, and that what they really need and want is responsible, sensible government, something that hasn't been seen in this country for generations.
I was just messing with Vision. He loves to call anyone who believes in universal healthcare and anything less than laissez faire capitalism a communist, so I went to the other extreme and characterized the Christian right as facist. Neither is true. Obama is as communist as Bush was facist, which is to say, not very much. While both politicians do have some tendencies toward their respective extreme, neither is a true communist or facist in the true meanings of the word. Since a lot of the conservatives on this board like to bandy the term "communist" around unfairly and inaccurately I wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine. The interesting thing is that in other countries around the world that have more political parties than we do, there are actually minority parties that are facist or communist. In those countries the words do not have the negative connotation that we attribute to them, and are simply used to describe that parties' beliefs. At the extreme left lie the communists, and at the extreme right you have facists, and the farther you swing toward one pole or the other the closer you get to fitting one or the other of those two terms. In our two party system the extremists are absorbed into one or the other party and consequently there are Democrats whose beliefs are communist in nature, and there are Republicans whose beliefs are nearly facist. I was not saying that all christians are facists, so don't take offense if you're Christian. There are Christian communists, libertarians, democrats, greens, etc. I was merely calling attention to the fact that the more militant and extreme right in our country happens to be group of facist-leaning Christian fundamentalists. This is not without historical precedent, as my favorite poet, T.S. Eliot was both a fervent Christian and a Facist. I don't hold it against him. Before WWII the terms facist and communist did not have the pejorative sense that they have in our country now after terrible regimes have shown those ideologies' dark sides. If certain members of this board would give up on the "Obama is a Commie Pinko" crazy talk I would happily stop calling Bush a facist pig, even if I believe it with all my heart But in all seriousness, the more toward either extreme a party swings the more alienated and powerless they will find themselves, as sensible Americans will abandon them and their failed polices. The Republican party just paid that price and seems not to have learned their lesson. The Democrats are a bunch of idiots and clearly seem to have let the power go to their heads, so it is very likely that they will shoot themselves in the foot in the next four years. It seems that both parties in our country are becoming polarized with the majority of normal Americans stuck in no man's land. I hope that it becomes severe enough that they both rupture and the sensible moderate, Americans will finally have a viable third party. I am sick of both parties, be they "Communists" or "Facists."
We have a president and congress hell bent on spending money like a drunken sailor, consequences be damned. Unemployment rising way past levels the dems predicted. Stock market staggering like a shot-up cowboy. All this, and people still want to talk about Sarah Palin.
God help us all.

You're a "Christian facist" if you are against gay marrage, want pot kept illegal...
It's what the looney left shrills when morality is supported.
Hmmm, I'm not real sure about either of those issues. Guess I must be a Christian Communist. Wait, is that possible?
Akumushi, thanks for the detailed response. So republicans lean toward fascism and democrats lean toward communism? I think I need to do more research on what fascism is. It sounds bad though, lol.
It's a bit more complicated than "conservatives = capitalists" or "conservatives = fascists" or "liberals = communists" and what have you. The old 'left-right' dichotomy simply doesn't make sense in terms of modern political alignments. It's much more useful to think about politics in terms of a coordinate grid, like the one that politicalcompass.org uses. Instead of one continuum from left to right, they use two-- one measuring economic opinion, the other social opinion. This makes it much easier to tell the difference between, say, two leftists like Stalin and Gandhi. Equally so the differences between, say, right-wingers like Milton Friedman and right-wingers like Benito Mussolini.
