We should give Acid somewhat of a break. While I'm leary of a new member wanting to trade right away, it doesn't mean he's all bad. Hopefully, if he wants to stay, he'll ease into it.

I think BinDer can find the posts on his own. Don't think there's a reason to have a separate post pointing him at one member.

CS - I'm just goofing around since a couple of us joined the BASE. So it is only meant to be silly, not serious. I took a good share of good natured razzing and still do. Its not my intent to be mean to the new guy.

OK, first of all, this is just silly so there is nothing serious here. The brotherhood of the all seeing eye. Set up to be silly to new members. So I was alerting him. No offense was intended to anyone. When I first came on here and didn't know squat, it was really helpful to go to the sites BinDer has listed after I had asked about 20 simple but discussed many times, questions. Also, he has a sense of humor that I get a kick out of.

Thanks. Been here about a year and I still had no idea what BASE was. Now I get it.

Stuff like this is why I waited a few months after registering before my first post. Doing so lets you watch more over eager noobies take abuse so you can learn how to avoid it. Razz

Some advice for noobies from a fellow noobie.
Take some time to watch what transpires on a daily basis here before you start posting. Also go thru and read thru some older posts with titles that catch your interest so you can get an idea of how discussions start and how they progress. It will give you a better feel for the overall personality and flow of the community. It makes it easier to avoid getting flamed once you do start posting.

Also your first post should be an introduction letting everyone know who you are a little about yourself. It's rude to just jump into a conversation flappin' your jaws without letting people know who you are first (but this is just my opinion).

Lorax - I've always thought it would be great if more of us had some of the links listed that BinDer does and your paragraph is great too.
I don't know how to do links. Is it possible for me to take the links on BinDer's site and copy them to mine and have that work?

I'll post this here too:

I'm not trying to chase you off Mr. Acid. Just want to let you ease into the board.

Take Mr. Abbott as an example. A fairly recent new member of the CA Boards. He took his time, made posts, we got to know him, he took part in bombing runs (sending cigars without the expectation of getting anything back), posted pics of his humidor he made. When he wanted to take part in the RATS trade, Binder was still a little unsure. However, because Mr. Abbott took the time become a part of the community, several longstanding members spoke up for him. He got in the pass and sent a great bunch of cigars. No one will doubt him now.

It think some more serious consideration needs to be given to the idea of a FAQ (or Hey Noob, Read this First!) stickie for this forum. Have all the (I'm quoting Puffing here) "Nooble-escent" questions in there with answers, and a bunch of BinDer's links in there as well. This would require assigning a trusted vet to author it and getting the board admin's assistance in setting it up as well (but I guess that's obvious).

I think the hard thing is that people don't read the directions and I am talking about myself. I never noticed the stuff on BinDer's site until someone pointed it out.

Just an observation, but this thread has managed to get 14 posts before its name sake has even seen it.

I get a kick out of some of the stuff. You write a note to someone and 80 people view it.

I have already weighed in on AcidPartagas and suggested to him that he not be offended by people not wanting to jump right into a trade with him. I would suggest others do the same until the guy has proven himself.
