This board, as part of a private enterprise, has the right to enforce whatever rules it wants, including censorship, and by participating in it, you choose to abide by those rules.
If the Constitution didn't establish free speech, the government could very well say "you'll be censored, and if you don't like it, you can leave to whatever country you want". Thankfully, that is not the case in this country.

Again, above you have stated another dichotomy in terms. You want it both ways. I live in the USA and per your profile you live in a Commonwealth of the USA. I am here, you are not. You are preaching to me from afar. I worked overseas 25-years and was a component of building some of the largest public works projects for developing countries in the world. That makes me feel good. I choose to loive in the USA, so don't girly-man tell me to live in another country if I want. I don't want! And, Flashman, You state "obscenities" and "hate propaganda" do not qualify as free speech. An obscenity does not have to be a curse word the have the same effect. Are you telling me that you do not hate George Bush, his policies, his party and all conservative? Sounds like you do. so your pious preaching remains intact. Actually, I am wasting your time. You, instead, need to argue with Ann Coulter (I can hear you cussing now). As long as it's your agenda and idea it's gospel. Never let anyone argue with you. You speak from two sides of your mouth. You are relentless. You are tiresome and very old in youf ideolgy. They named a street after both of you. "One Way".

Laws do, not me. And we have very similar laws and rights.

If I were to say : "Kill Bush and all his followers !", that would be hate propaganda. But stating : "I completely disagree with Bush's (or whomevers) policies" is not. Anne Coulter... That's a funny one... And may I point out that you try to defend your point of view with all you have also. The difference is you feel you have to be violent about it, even in your words. Girly-men ! Oooooh ! Now I feel threatened in my virility...

You seem to be threatened by everything someone says to you. However, being a good wordsmith you do defend yourself in the most pedantic way.

I'm not threatening your virility, I'm mocking your liberalism. I'm enjoying sparring with you. You are obvioulsy educated, up to date on politics (albeit with a slant), an excellent wordsnith, lots of spunk, believe in what you say, and I'm glad you thought the Anne Coulter gig was funny (ha-ha or not ha-ha). Perhaps I come off violent because I am violent. I've seen too many people die in the jungle in the middle of nowhere, held a wounded buddies hand all night until he took his final breath, seen too many bad things in my 25-years working overseas as a civil engineer in ALL of the hell-holes of the world. You appear not viloent, just bleeding heart liberal, and I'm glad nothing happened to you so that you don't have to be. Let's just say we got off to a bad start and agree to disagree. Really, I enjoy the sparring. You are so sensitive and thin skinned. But most liberals are. At least your aren't ashamed of it. C'mon, let's cuss and discuss some more. Or, tell me to go to hell and leave you alone.

I enjoy the sparring too FirstRecon (I don't really don't feel threatened at all). I appreciate your compliments (and will take the pot with the flowers), but your vivacity and honesty are even more precious to me. Beneath the bickering, this is a true learning exprerience. Also, knowing a bit more about your personnal experiences sheds a lot of light on the reasons for your sentiments. If I where in your shoes, I'd probably would think along the same lines. I make my living with words in the media as you do with engeneering in the military. In a sense, being what we are helps us do what we do. We are both different parts -- very different, not even the same function -- but of the same machine : modern human civilization. A machine that needs to be worked on -- a lot -- and I believe, as contradictiry as it seems, that we are both part of the solution. I'll do more than agree to disagree. I'll agree to agree that both our positions deserve respect, since the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. But, mercy, leave Ann Coulter out of this, or I'll give you some Al Franken ! Pedantistically yours, Nicolas F. (aka flashman)

Seems to me that there is a time and place for everything.
If the Dixie Chics want to speechify at the Democratic National Convention go for it. If Ted Nugent wants to address the Republican National Convention, by all means.
If I pay $60 for a ticket to hear them sing or play guitar, I want a song and not politics.

Ok, no, not al Fraken! OK no more Ann Coulter. Flashman, I'm glad we kissed and made up. I have been out of sorts this week (the pain in the brain remains the same!) and I suppose I took it out on some of the forum members. Glad we can communicate again. And I'm glad you still have your innocence. Respectfully submitted, Hugh P. (a.k.a. FirstRecon Co., First Marine division)

Super ! And I can see (hope) you still have some innocence too -- in the positive sense --, it just hides deeper when you have suffered. I know, believe me, pain and trials are not only the fruits of war.

Sh!t, I'd be violent too... I've enjoyed reading everyone’s POV on censorship and free speech. It has enlightened me to the fact that our views on freedom and personal rights are heavily influenced by our individual experiences. I'm thankful that I live in a country where we have been given (and fought to protect) our right to speak our minds. As for being a "girly-man, lefty, super liberal", I really don't think I am... in fact, I think hippies smell and should really try to shower occasionally! Also, FirstRecon, the term "girly-man" is more amusing than anything else (makes me think of the picture of Arnold with the moving mouth on Conan O'brien). I think you should go back and edit your posts replacing it with pu55y.

The Constitution did not and does not establish free speech. Don't they teach you American History in Ricoland? Come on, one day you may become a state

No, my attempts were sucussful. You corrected your mistake. You were called to the carpet and not allowed to say something that was not true. You learned some American History. As far as ethnic bating, I have no idea what you are talking about. I asked if they taught you American History in Ricoland. Did I offend you? Do you not live there? How is that ethinic bating if ther is such a thing?
