He is indeed more liberal than the rest of the batch of conservative nutjobs who made a run for prez, but I am fairly certain that if elected, he intends to carry on with the same policies Bush left behind, particularly in terms of wasteful military spending.

Not just Iraq. His policy has alienated the United States from most of it's allies. The domestic policies as well are not something most Americans cherish him for.
And I perfectly know that Obama won't be pulling troops by the thousands when he becomes president. Actually I know that the US won't be withdrawing from Iraq any time soon. They might withdraw from cities as a force of active occupation, but they most certainly will stay in bases.
