Couple of questions, actually. How does a cigar get to be burning to hot? Also, is there a way to calm it if it's already started?

I understand there are at least two ways a cigar can burn too hot. First, if you are drawing on it too frequently, the cigar won't have the chance to "cool down" to an appropriate temperature. This can be remedied by allowing more time to pass in between draws. Second, cigars that are too dry may burn at a hotter temperature. Make sure to verify the humidity in your humidor is at a proper level to rule out this possibility.

I'm sure there are other causes for a cigar burning too hot; these were simply the two most obvious to me.

Good luck.

if you're removing the ash to soon that can make for a hot draw. Let the ash build, it helps cool the burn. Don't flick the ash, buy a jacket and let be ash fall on its own.

Drewman is very wise.

I remember back in the 1950's when they advertized cigars on TV there was one commercial that advised allowing about an inch of ash to build up to help keep the cigar burning cooler and those were some brand of MACHINE MADES.

Actually all of the anwers were on the money.
