Yesterday afternoon, there was a persuit and the guy that was being chased lost control, flipped his car several times, and went into a canal. He drowned. Anyway, we had to block the road off so that no one could pass. this involved placing my car across the road, blocking the lane leading to the fatality, directing with hand signals, and placing cones across the road also. Cars were detoured down a different road. EIGHT cars tried to run my road block. either not paying attention, or were too stupid to realize that the road was closed. ALL eight drivers were WOMEN !!! I yelled. I screamed. and pretty much did my best to make them feel stupid, while I made them turn around, because they were. two of them almost ran right into me. others almost hit my car, or ran over cones.ya know the type. Not paying attention to the road in front of them, because they were putting on makeup, or talking on the phone. I think that common sense tests should be given before a license is issued. What do you think?

I think I won't touch the "women" aspect of this. Its too bad you had to put up with the danger. I personally think it is a shame that we choose to pay the people in our society that protect us so little money. I was amazed to hear that a lot of firefighters have to get second jobs to make it. I don't know about the police but assume it is probably the same. Anyway, glad no one ran you over!!!
I agree...most people seem to be asleep at the wheel now days. If you ride a motorcycle, you really get an education, because on two wheels, you really ARE invisible to 90% of the zombies on the road.
The ones that get me are the JOs who INTENTIONALLY come at you (and they do...), or figure you just don't have a right to your patch of the road.....And amazingly, it doesn't matter if your a Motor Officer either. I have a number of friends I ride with who are Police Officers, and they all have similar horror stories...people look directly at them as they are running them off the road, and when pulled over, nonchalantly say that "I didn't see you"...even though they made direct eye contact before they did it. They obviously make VERY sure that they will remember to "see" them the next time.
It's happened to me many times also....I even had a woman in the center lane approaching an exit, with me in the right lane, look right at me, hunch her head down and close her eyes (bracing for impact), and turn the wheel to take the exit...luckily I saw her doing it so I could stand on the brakes before she hit me.....amazing. The sad thing is...I see a lot of similar driving every time I go out.....but the SUV-driving Soccer Moms are the worst.

I feel you on the motorcycle thing rbihari, when I was back in the states I had a bike and every day was an adventure driving on the mean streets of miami, you really have to have eyes in the back of your head and cat like reflexes to stay alive on two wheels man!

I hope you were joking about the last part. I know that cops are way underpaid. I would never put my life in jeopardy for amount of money and crap they get to do their job.
Could be a lot worse, you could live in MA and have to deal with the m@ssh0le drivers here. I am so glad that I learned how to drive before moving here. They appear to have selective amnesia, when it rains they slow down to a crawl, when it snows they speed up as if they have forgotten what that white stuff falling from the sky is.

TPSO I feel your pain. I have some LEO's as friends and family. As a result I never "rubberneck" at accidents and the minute I see flashing lights on the side of the road, my first instinct is to look for the officer and pass as wide as safely possible.
Last month I saw a cop throw a flashlight at some dumb lady who was ignoring his direction in an intersection. She almost plowed into the towtruck. I was stopped (because the cop motioned STOP) and she swung around me to get through. I didn't see the end result, but he had another officer pull her over.
My sincerest hope was that she was tazered, ticketed and jailed, but she probably only got a lecture.
Remember people, COPS in intersections (or road blocks, DUI stops, etc) are the traffic control device! Ignore everything else and pay attention to THEM, make eye contact with them so they know you understand what they are telling you!
I definately think women should not be on the road. They belong in the passenger seat, not behind the wheel. My wife completely agrees. She's been in 5 wrecks the past 3 months, 2 of them very serious. I took her license to drive and shredded it. She's now learning to knit, which seems much safer.

Then YOU can spend the hours and miles I spend (probably an average of 50 miles a day and that's just the local errands) taking my children EVERY DAY to school, sports, 4-H, etc., not to mention the grocery shopping, and I'll stay home and knit.
Don't be a jackass. Just because your wife can't drive doesn't mean the rest of women cannot. I'm the first to admit I've seen some pretty stupid things done by bimbos on the road, but I've seen just as many idiotic things done by "men."

Sorry SmokinHot, I meant no offense. Of course some women can drive fine, but not many. Just like some women smoke cigars, but not many.
Maybe I need to get my wife a smaller car. Right now she's driving a pimped out pink '86 Caddie. Maybe she needs an XLR. Then again, it might be too powerful for her.
Back to the original intent of this thread.......I'm always amazed when a patrol car has its lights on and heading at a fast pace down the road, everyone is pulling over, except for that one person who just can't figure out what to do with the flashing lights riding up the trunk of their car. And most of the time it IS women, or old people.
Don't ask me why, but your last post reminds me of a story SmokinHot.
My grandmother, when she was younger, in her early 30's, was driving with my grandfather in the passerger seat, reclined sleeping. It was evening time when my grandmother spotted a single cruiser light spinning and flashing trying to pull her over. Well, us African Americans get a little nervous as it is whenever we get pulled over, so hesitantly she stops. A man in plain clothes starts coming up to the car, when my grandfather popped up to see what was going on. The man turned and jumped back in his car and left as soon as he saw my grandfather. This was in New York in the mid 50's. Lesson of the story is to be cautious women, who knows what that guy was up to.

I agree.....

Its the folks that are using their cell phones while driving down the road paying more attention to the phone than the road that gets me.

Smokin'Hot you have proved over and over again that you are no mere woman and any cigar smoking women who has common sense is exempt from the "women" comments. If it helps we think of you as one of the guys...with knobs.

Yep, this is one of the things people do (and its not just women) that really gets to me. Even better yet, there have been numerous times where I have literally come to a stop behind a motorist that has decided to stop in the LEFT HAND lane when I approach from behind running hot! I just don't understand some people. Didn't they go to drivers ed? Guess it comes with the line of work....
TPSO,
I can't speak about your particular situation, but with our department, we often call additional units out to sit down the road from the accident scene with lights on, only as a warning to oncoming motorists. Kind of a "pre-accident" warning. This for the most part has helped. I've come to the conclusion, no matter what you do, there will always be that handful of bad drivers! You just have to prepare yourself by thinking each car has that potential BAD driver. Glad you're safe! Take care.
