Thats great! One state at a time, I'm hoping for a nation-wide conceal carry to go through at some point, I do have a license for Texas that is at least honored by some other states.

I would love to see this happen but dout it ever will as long as there are liberal gun grabbing states out there but would be nice. In Alabama we have a CCW permit and cost $7.50 a year in my county and is issued by the Sheriffs Dept. We dont have to take a class to get a permit but they do a background check befor they issue one.

No doubt, I won't hold my breath.

Costs alot more in my area, $150 for the mandatory class and another $120 or $140 (can't remember, been a while) for 4 years. Still worth it.

I understand about hunting season, when all the nimrods go to the range and shoot a couple rounds to make sure they can still hit the broadside of a barn and then go out and shoot at anything that moves, many while drinking alcohol. I only hunt on private land now to try to keep out of their field of fire, too many close calls.

But I feel the benefits of legal conceal carry far outweigh any negatives.

Wisconsin is surprisingly a liberal state. Liberal governernor, senators, etc. Plus.. the fact that we may have more hunting deaths doesnt have anything to do with concealed weapons. When hunting, everyone is carrying a powerful gun out in the open. but the reason that may happen is because Wisconsin has more hunter's per square mile than most states. Plus we had psychos like the mung guy last year, and he didnt even live in Wisconsin. I'm surprised this passed, and very pleased.

Congratulations Wisconsin!!

In case you haven't noticed, the number of states with carry laws has increased tremendously within the past 5 years. The experience has been positive (in no case has it resulted in the "blood in the streets" scenario touted by anti-gun factions), and the benefits evident in reduced violent crime across the board.

Since NJ is one of the most beleaguered states when it comes to gun law, I exercise my 2nd amendment rights as often as possible. I can carry in the majority of states, but not in my own. Now that Corzine has been elected the next Governor, he'll sign off on whatever damage the legislature brings to him. Dumb politicians come up with this 'smart gun' lunacy. NJ never learns!

I'm still trying to fathom what generalizations and over-statements about hunters have to do with concealed carry for self-protection.

I remember when Texas and Florida were considering passing a CCW permit law. All the liberal anti-gunners came out and were predicting a rise in gun related deaths and crimes. They said it would be like "Dodge City" there would be shootouts in the streets and more drive by shootings. All of these Liberal predictions turned out to be wrong as you well know. The thug element of our society that are causing the gun related deaths would not be able to get a CCW permit due to the fact most have a crime record. If you really want to reduce violent crimes committed with weapons then we should shut the revolving dore in our prisons. We need longer prison terms for violent criminals and expand the death penality for drug dealers caught with drugs and guns. It sounds extreme but these are extreme times and extreme people. A CCW permit law alows law abiding citizens like me to carry a consealed weapon for protecting myself and my family. The thug element of our society really fears a well armed public now they are at a higher risk of being killed victimizing honest citizens.

Seem like I recall the citizens of Texas voting for and passing a CCW law only to be vetoed by their then Governor Ann Richards who was soundly defeted in the next election. This should have been a WAKE UP CALL to all elected officials.

The same people put out the same predictions when Florida's "Castle Doctrine" passed. Claiming that it would turn us into the "Wild West", again, was just another baseless scare tactic.

I mean, come on, handing out fliers to tourists at the airport warning them that law-abiding people here might be armed? Oops. I forgot. They left out the part about "law-abiding".

Anyhow, it should be the law of the land everywhere.

Basically it:
1 - establishes, in law, the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into your home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, therefore a person may use any manner of force, including deadly force, against that person.

2 - removes the "duty to retreat" if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. You no longer have to turn your back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Instead, you may stand your ground and fight back, meeting force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others. [This is an American right repeatedly recognized in Supreme Court gun cases.]

3 - provides that persons using force authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such force.

4 - also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them.

(Thanks to Florida Castle Doctrine for the summary.)

now that wisconsin has concealed carry, lobby for reciprocity agreements so that permit holders from other states can carry in wisconsin, and vice versa. florida's sec of state website has a listing of states fl has reciprocity with; hope to see wisconsin added soon.

The 2006 NRA Annual Meeting is in Milwaukee next spring, so I'm sure there will be some concentration on bolstering carry laws, reciprocity, castle doctrine-like self-defense, etc.
