Bought a huge book of Sherlock Holmes and smoked way too many cigars this weekend while reading. Any other S.H. fans out there? This morning my throat is a bit raw. But, how can you read without a good cigar? Hey - how bout those Vikings? What a team. We are so proud of them here in Minnesota. Oh, well, there's always 5 years from now.
Yes, I have enjoyed the writings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for many years. When I didn't want to have to pay to have my phone numbers unlisted, I had them listed under Mycroft Holmes and James Moriarity. It was enjoyable waiting to see which of my friends would get the connotations.
Which stories have you read thus far?
Alan

First, I bought 2 small collections at Barnes and Noble and read through them. Then, I got the large leather bound complete works for only $19.95. It was pretty funny. I had been used to reading the shorter stories. The large book starts with "A study in Scarlet." I read the first half which ends with Sherlock Holmes saying that the detectives can ask him any questions they want now. I thought that was the end of the story, and was pissed. I couldn't figure it out. The next page started with the guy and the young girl in the desert being rescued by the Mormons, so I thought it was a new story. Finally figured it out. I'm reading "The Sign of Four" now. It is interesting that Watson was shot in the shoulder during the first story and in the second story, it was in the leg. Bob
Yeah but - I had so many cigars my nose was burnt on the inside from sniffing smoke, my throat was sore from - pretend you didn't read this - inhaling. And boy did I smell bad!!! I keep thinking of that one guy on the forum that said he smoked 1200 CC a year and hundreds of NC. Your taste buds have got to stop working at some point!!!!

I think it was Churchill who said he owed everything to a vigorous appetite for cigars, interrupted only by sleeping and eating. I'm paraphrasing, but you get the point. As for 1200+ CC's and some NC's that is only
4 cigars a day, which is quite doable. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, before bed. Wish I could do that all the time.
I do too. I would love to start off my day with coffee and a cigar but the breath might kill my employees. I can hardly wait for the end of the work day to start my smoking!!! Say, BinDer, I have noticed a few times people saying that they saw something you wrote in a magazine. Are you an author doing magazine articles?
Binder - here's Churchill's quote: My rule of life prescribed as an absolutely sacred rite smoking cigars and also the drinking of alcohol before, after and if need be during all meals and in the intervals between them.
