Now don't tell me I'm the only one who's thought about this. How long do you think it would take to burn down a dog rocket taped to a Shop Vac? Just tape it up, light it, and turn on the vac. Has anyone done this? Would be kinda' interesting to see how it goes.... Big Grin

It depends on what you are talking about - do you mean a really bad cigar or a dog dooder?
If you mean a dog dooder, watch out, your thread might disappear. We have been having too many threads about p**p. I had mine deleted.

Good point! Since this was the CA board, I assumed people would know what I was taking about. Yes, a bad cigar. I posted the alternate meaning of my "Dog Rocket" question on another appropriate website.

Be very careful doing this experiment.

As the cigar is sucked by the vaccum it will get very hot and sparks could easily go into the vac igniting dust and dirt within the unit.

Dog rocket is the generally accepted term for a bad tasting cigar.

C'mon JC, ya gotta give it a try. Forget what Doc said and live life in the edge. By the way, am I the only one who see this experiment ending up as a Darwin Award winner?

Actually Doc has a great point. The inside of a vacume would qualify as a class 2 hazordous location. Dust free floating in the air. VERY, VERY combustable. Every see the explosions at grain refineries? I would take a precaution and just spray the inside of the vacume and the filter very well in advance of the lil experiment. Nice heads up DOc! Smile

just kiddin. Seriously - you shouldn't do this. I'm a woodworker, and the risk of an explosion is very high when you mix airborne dust and any ignition source.

So, when you do it, just use a long extension cord and put the vac very vary far away from your house.

I'm not real sure on the inner workings of a Shop Vac, but couldn't you just seperate the cannister from the upper unit for the experiment? It would just blow the smoke into the room, as opposed to inside the tank. I believe the unit would still work right?

A shop-vac won't work with the top removed. It is basically a fan that pumps air out of the cannister, creating the vaccuum and the suction is pulled through the hose in the side of the cannister.

I am fairly confident that if you taper down the hose to say 50 gauge size and only draw on the foot without sucking in ashes and embers, you'll be ok. In fact I am so confident I'm going to try it when I get home. I don't have digital vid, but I have a camera and will take plenty of pics.
