Well the beginning of the end of the US as we know it happened today. What the heck is our country coming to?

If this bill passes the Senate and goes to Obama, he will of course sign it. Then our taxes will go up astronimcally and house price will go down, gas prices up, oil up and an assortment of other prices will go up.

What do you think? Unfortunately, let the games begin.

I could not believe some of the garbage that was added in the 300 page last minute amendments. When John Boehner stood up and read the nonsense included in this bill I thought surely some people could not in good conscience support it. I guess I was wrong, first you must have a good conscience.

To me every yes vote was from a traitor. They have betrayed the trust of the American people and I hope every yes vote finds themselves unemployed after the next election.

I phoned my Democratic Reps office twice to voice my opposition, at least he voted no.

Now the fight moves to the Senate, I hope they will be more sensible and bury this thing.

Does this makes sense? Nah, of course not. Know what's in it before they pass it? Crazy talk!

I phoned my Congressman yesterday and found out he was voting agaisnt it. Luckily, he is a Republican who stands for the values of the people.

I also sent him an email thanking him for voting no on this bill.

I have a Blue Dog Democrat for a representative. He is pro-life, pro-guns, pro-military and against cap and trade. Trying to figure out why he hangs out with the Democrats, they don't have a lot in common.

Democrats continue to do everything they can to destroy the economy while the media cheers them on in silence; joe 6 pack has no idea. Business as usual.

America literally put a gun to it's head last November.

I have read that this bill would result in a major shift of economic power from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere.

The Liberals got him in on there bait switch and lie campaign. That's what an old timer at a gathering in the Hampton's yesterday said to me. So in conclusion the people that voted and continue to support him will get exactly what they deserve. It is a shame that if he fails everyone else will be made to suffer.

Do any of you have any concerns about this program as an environmental issue? Or is it all taxes and economy?

I know it's tough to separate the two, but as I mentioned, I'm the lone conservative in an environmental law class and we're forced to leave politics out of our discussions about the law and it's effects. If any of you have any thoughts about it's effectivness, proposed impact, health considerations, etc...I'd love to hear them.

I expect somebody to snipe this post, but perhaps some of you have some helpful insight...

Jaqmqt,

I am concerned about the enviroment but instead of raising taxes immensely, I wish we would look at Nuclear Power, Natural gas and drill for some to the oil we have in our country just sitting there.

If France can use Nuclear Power for most of there electricity we can also.

Are you guys talking about any of these options in your class? I doubt it since you are the only conservative in the class.

The government is spitting in the face of the hard working middle class American tax payer. If this turd of a bill makes it though the senate we're in for a world of hurt... taxes through the roof, lost jobs, lost industries, restrictions up the rear, all in the name of a complete and utter hoax called global warming, climate change or whatever the hell the elitists are calling it now. Al Gore should he beaten to death for this lie he has foisted on our country. The man's still bitter because he lost the election and no one believes he invented the internet. He is an utter charlatan and hack as is B.O. the man all the sheeple bought into and elected. I'm sure as hell glad I didn't vote for him. His ass will be out on the pavement in 2012 as will his evil minions (Nancy Botox Polosi) in 2010. I look forward to that day. But that being said, by that time the damage may already be done and may be irreversible. Welcome to the world of communism kids.

We (will) cover the whole gammit of topics, but from the legal perspective. We're working through the Clean Air Act now, and the discussion is over the litigation the Act has provoked. Cap-and-Trade is a debatable topic as an effective means to control air pollution--it's been used to slow several types of emissions.

My contention is that it's not really a benefit. Speaking in generalities here--but I would think a program that cuts harmful emissions by 1/2 simply means it takes twice as long to have a negative impact. (I hope that comes across clearly.) For the money-shuffle associated with the cap-and-trade, I think a more effective solution would be to put those dollars into technology that would provide a way to burn cleaner, capture emissions, reduce to a solid, and find a way to re-use or dispose of them safely, or shift to substances less harmful.

I would suggest if you're going to regulate, it's an all-or-nothing situation--go to wind, solar, hydro...spend the money in a way that will achieve permanent and positive results...sure it will cost, and it will suck, but there will be a benefit. With cap-and-trade, its simply polluting at a slower rate, there is no improvement, but rather simply a delay before we're faced with the same problem, and the same costs. That's the inefficiency I mentioned earlier.
