The first New Hampshire poll taken after the Iowa results:

McCain 32%
Romney 30%
Undecided 18% (!)
Huckabee 12%
Giuliani 9%
Paul 7%
Thompson less than 1%

Clinton 32%
Obama 28%
Edwards 20%
Undecided 10%
Richardson 7%
Kucinich 3%

Clearly, no room for any poor performances in tonight's televised debates.

Speaking of which, who's the genius that scheduled them opposite the NFL playoffs??

Interesting. I dunno who Rasmussen is, but a 10% difference doesn't seem reasonable. But whadda I know? The one I referred to is the Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll.

Jeez, a lot of people are interested in it .... the Rasmussen web server is all jammed up at the moment.

I don't know much about polling statistics, so I'm wondering why the disparity between the two polls. It just doesn't seem like a 10% lead for either candidate is realistic.

Depends on where in the country you are, I guess. I'm still getting the 'check back later' error message.

I thought that Obama, Edwards, and Romney did well. Hillary seemed to be off her game. Did anyone else notice that "Uh" was every other word when she first started?

Any one get the feeling that we are going to see an Obama / Edwards dem ticket?

Sure am glad to see huckabee lose some steam.. My current feelings for 08 are "Anyone but huckabee!!".

If Obama takes Edwards he is screwed. Edwards did absolutely nothing for Kerry in 04.

My current feelings for 08 are "Anyone but Hillary!!"

I never lend credibility to CNN, they are on the Clinton bandwagon. On the IOWA caucus night they tried to bury all news about Hillary's loss by concentrating on Huckabee and how the religious right came out in droves for him. Rarely did they mention the dems.

However you are right, caution must be exercised when viewing these polls. I'm cautiously optomistic that Obama may now have too much momentum for Hillary to recover. As much as I hate the thought of a dem president, and I do, I could stomach Obama much more than Hillary because he does not seem to have such an agenda.

BTW-am I the only one sick of hearing her talk about experience? She has NONE...she is using her husbands experience. If she is going to run on experience then Obama needs to play it smart and keep bringing up the National Archives that have not been released of the Clinton presidency, let's see her experience...She won't do that though, though she does have the power too, or at least her husband would.

I dunno ... they've been beating the drum for Obama pretty loudly on air lately. Besides, all these guys hire outside polling companies -- though I suppose they could ask for the results to be 'skewed', it'd be hard to keep that secret, it seems to me. Their credibility is too important to them in the long run.

Meanwhile, it's fun to watch the Republican party apparatchiks, who are absolutely livid over Huckabee's rise. Limbaugh, Novak and the WSJ are beside themselves in denouncing him, and the gloom on Fox News was actually palpable when they had to announce he'd won Iowa.

quote:
Jack, what are you thoughts on McCain?
Well, he's clearly a patriot and a man of deep principle, though a bit crusty in his old age. It's likely he'd keep his own counsel and not bend to special interests. But he wants to reverse Roe v. Wade and he's a warhawk -- two factors which play against my personal political worldview -- and his age is a bit of a concern.

Still, he's a great American and we need more like him in political life.

I suppose if someone held a gun to my head and made me vote Republican, I'd prefer it be Giuliani. Anyone -- anyone -- but Mitt.

Personally I cannot see Edwards taking the #2 spot again.

George Will commented on This Week that maybe no one saw the debate because it was opposite football!

I think the Clinton Campaign will go ditry (sneaky) if Sen Obama wins in New Hampshire and start talking about "electability" as a code word for race. Don't think James Carbille does not already have people ready to start whispering.
